Michael Jackson

Here in America, we have been listening to the talk on the death of Michael Jackson almost non-stop. While yes this is important to his many fans, I really don't think it should have gotten this much media attention. My friend forwarded me this email written by a young man serving his third tour of duty in Iraq. He states the honest truth.

I understand and respect the soldiers bitterness, but I respectfully disagree. Many Americans are angered by the way this war is being administered. Hell, every time we have politicians run a war, good men die. We have Memorial Day that honors those that fell in battle to protect our way of life. We have Veterans Day to celebrate those who have served our country. We have memorials and moments of silence for those who have fallen in Irag/Afghanistan. Half the speeches in congress extoll the plight of the soldiers in Iraq (rightfully so). I have seen celebrations organized when men return from the Gulf. Just because some people decide to also mourn the loss of an entertainer DOES NOT mean that we think any less of the troops. Hell, that is part of what the troops are fighting for, for Americans to be able to do what we please in life. so if some Americans took their free time to mourn Michael, well that was their rights and I will stand up for their right with my dying breathe. Are we not allowed to mourn someone when there is a war? What about if my parents die. Can I go to the funeral and cry, or should those tears be saved for the troops only?

Obviouslly, the letter was more directed at the bullshit length of this war and that is should be well over and the troops shouldn't be over there anymore. The fact that it used a current media event to vent this frustration is understandable, but it isn't MJs fault.

All that being said, the amount of media spent on this funeral was fucking ridiculous and I am tired of it too. The media is a pile of shit without any true integrity.

But again, I will defend the media and peoples rights to be fucking stupid. Otherwise, when I do something that other people don't agree with, who will be left to defend me?

/cheers!

PS: When I say "men", I use the term properly as defined in the dictionary. I know that men and women serve honorably in our armed forces. I refuse to bow to liberal bullshit and write "men and women" every time I want to write men. Piss off. If that is truly something for women to be worried about, they have their priorities ALL WRONG. There are tons of real discrimination against women occuring that need to be fought, the english language is not one of them.
