This is part one in a series of overdue blog posts! 2011 is already a very busy year. But hey, at least I'm never bored!
Without further adieu, we begin!
Because of frail grandmothers and other relatives located in the north island, rigid time frame of a friend's visit, the location of friends in various places around the country, and working hours of government offices, rather than having one wedding, we had a three phase operation.
Phase 1 was a party in Dunedin, Phase 2 was the official wedding at the Palmerston North District Court, and Phase 3 was the ceremony at my parents place in Palmerston North.
Official part:
This was actually a bit scary! My heart was pounding just a little bit.
It is us, the newly married couple!
The official ceremony was a small affair, with only immediate family members in attendance. One of my grandmas cried.
Phase 2 was the actual ceremony. We thought about getting a celebrant to do it and not officially get married just at the registry office, but I don't really like the idea of a total stranger marrying us. It just seems weird, when everyone else is close family and friends.
Anyway, we were very disorganised. All my organisational energy last year went into KOALA, and that did not leave much time to organise the wedding ceremony! My dad organised an arch a couple of days before the wedding, and we only came up with the actual ceremony the night before! My sister officiated.
We were also super super lucky with the weather. The day before it was pouring and the day after it was pouring, but on the day, it was sunny and 27 degrees. Perfect! But a little too hot. My dress had many layers, and I was sweating!
Our wedding cake was awesome. I don't like fruitcake that much, but the decorations were impeccable! Tonic's uncle did all the decorating, apart from the little figures of us that we made ourselves.
My dad also made a great BBQ, and we had fireworks at the end!
