I guess this is an excuse to resurrect my poor neglected livejournal.
Chronicles of Skin is a fabulous new game that's due to be released by the end of the year. It's currently got an IndieGoGo campaign to raise money for production. It raised its initial $2,000 target within about a day, and is now aiming at a new target of $5,000 which will allow for a much better print quality at lower unit costs. There are 10 days left and the game needs another $700.
The campaign is here:
http://www.indiegogo.com/Chronicles-of-Skin It's a game in which players create the story of a civil war. You start by inventing two cultures, the Croen and the Iho and then playing through the various tragedies of their war. It's got this cool drawing thing where you represent what happens by drawing symbols onto a sheet and a bunch of cards with character names and the like.
I posted a picture of the sheet for this game last year after Gaelcon when I played it in a very early form. Since then the game has gone through many changes and variants. Although it was hard to watch some of my favourite bits get the cut, it's a much better game for it. Last night I played in an early playtest of the short story rules. These make the game much more turn based, eliminating most of the free play and forcing it into a very tight structure. The fun bit is that on your turn you suggest something that another character does, and then if that player accepts the suggestion they narrate. That's in the full game too, and it's a great mechanic. It forces the players to collaborate.
And finally some pretty pictures. (Click to enbiggen.)
A nice thing about the sheets is that you can look back at them and they remind you of what happened.
