We've just returned from two nights staying in lodges in the jungle. I've spent more time on boats in the last 48 hours than not, so dry land is still rocking back and forwards in a disconcerting manner.

We saw: proboscis monkeys, orangutang, macaque monkeys, silver langur (albino and normal), maroon langur, elephants, a crocodile, monitor lizards, a pit viper, a paradise snake, another unknown red snake, two types of king fisher, black and red boadbills, little blue flycatchers, oriental pied-hornbill, at least two different types of eagles, a christmas tree worth of fireflies and intermediate egrets - I seem to have skipped right past the beginner's egret

The jungle set new standards for humidity. By four in the afternoon, I would have killed for a glass of ice and ten minutes of air conditioning. It was just unbearable in the afternoons, but most of the activities took place around dawn or dusk... in fact the best stuff was on the night cruise.
