Politics... not good small talk with strangers.
Okay... so I get a haircut this afternoon and am treated to a barrage of unsolicited opinions by the young lady with the clippers. From the eye rollling and sympathetic glances from the other employees I realized that any response on my part would really get her going so I did my best to change the subject. Why? Why do some folks assume that everyone has to think the exact way they do? Despite what the talking heads spout off to their respective adoring media whores, most folks are fairly middle of the road when it comes to politics and I'm no exception. Some issues I lean conservative on and others I'm liberal... Personally, I prefer to discuss things in a civilized manner with the proper give and take of intelligent debate but that concept has apparently been totally lost in this day and age. The old adage about avoiding talk about religion, politics, and red headed women in polite company is definately true... wish more people understood that.
