Ahh yes....a ramble about sports!

Just a few words....

-FOOTBALL season is right around the corner!! Everyone in sports nation is excited, but none more than the Kansas City Royals! Maybe it will divert attention away from their 19 game losing streak.

-T.O. Drama...so T.O. isn't playing right now, and the Eagles lost wideout Todd Pinkston for the year...to profit off the saga at the Eagles training camp, ESPN is producing "Who Wants to be an Eagles Wide Receiver?" Sure to be in the running are Jerry Rice, Roscoe Crosby, and Mike Piazza. (Hey, catching is pretty much the same in either sport, right?)

-USC is #1 in preseason AP poll...if the Trojans can win their 3rd national championship in a row, look for Matt Leinart to unseat Arnold in the next Cali Governor election...

-High school football is underway...I miss South Carolina...there you knew the teams...Summerville, Stratford, Byrnes, Dorman, etc...here in Tennessee I'm still wondering if Soddy Daisy High can cover the spread against William Blount High...

-Braves dominating NL East....Bobby Cox can soon be thought of as the Strom Thurmond of baseball managers...except without the 60 year old illegitimate daughter...(ok that was bad, I admit)

-Lance Armstrong wins 7th Tour De France...the only thing better than him winning again is the fact that he's retiring, so next year we won't have to worry about Sportscenter wasting their time and our time on Tour De France coverage....

GOOD MOVE- Charlie Weis leaving the shadow of Bill Belicheck to coach at one of the most prestigious schools in the land in Notre Dame

BAD MOVE- Steve Spurrier leaving the life of golf and relaxation every day to live in Columbia and coach one of the SEC's worst teams (guess he can't do much worse than the Redskins debacle)

NCAA mandates no Native American mascots in postseason tourneys...minutes after hearing about the decision, Charleston Southern athletic officials received a defamation lawsuit from the family of the late great pirate Blackbeard...the suit was later dropped when the school notified the family that the Bucs never go to the postseason anyway, so it didn't matter...

Marino and Young inducted into NFL Hall of Fame...the crowd's attention shifted to Marino as he acted out a pass to former Dolphin wideout Mark Duper....word has it Young would've liked to have thrown a pass to Jerry Rice if he wasn't wearing that pesky Super Bowl ring...poor Marino...

Snoop Dogg coaching little league football...no word yet if Gin and Juice will be served on the sideline in place of Gatorade...

til next time...
