Dan and I found an apartment. We had In-N-Out for lunch.
New York was really great. I don't think I've been more exhuasted, ever really. I went non-stop for 5 days and 4 nights. After working fairly long hours, I felt the need to stay out, and up, as late as possible every night.
Lars and I went out for two really great dinners, one on Tuesday night in SoHo at Mercer Kitchen and one on Thursday night in the East Village at Mezcel, an Ethiopian restaurant. They were both great. We even had Ethiopian beer at Mezcel.
On Wednesday, Ali and I ran around Brooklyn and went out for Korean. Brooklyn is way too cool for school. I liked it, but don't think I could ever live there.
The best part of the trip was walking home from work every night the mile and half to the hotel. One night it had been so hot and muggy that the sky just opened up and poured. It monsooned while everyone just gave up and walked through these deep, dirty puddles. It was simply to hot to put up much of a fight.
Anyhow, I hope that this one week a month proposition holds true. Somehow I doubt it, but it was a great week. It was so great that when I wrote Lars an email on Friday after I got home, I mistakenly told him what a fun "weekend" it had been.
My only regrets for the trip were a) that I didn't make it down to the lower east side for a vietnamese sandwich. I still need to try one. I'm sure they have them in San Francisco, I've just got to find them. and b) that I didn't get to see Ignacio and Diego. Unfortunately I think they're all leaving after the Bar in a few weeks, returning to Argentina, Mexico and Germany respectively. New York just won't be as fun without their apartment in town.
Even thought it was fun to be in New York, I was happy to be back on Friday evening. After my flight got delayed due to "mechanical problems" - why they ever need to tell you that - I finally made it home around 5 PM. Even after sleeping for the entire flight, due to my overdose on Nyquil, I went home sat down in front of the tv and promptly fell asleep until about 10 PM. I woke up just enough to make it my bed where I fell asleep for another 12 hours. It was, in a word, amazing.
following the big trip east, Dan and I went out apartment hunting yesterday. after looking at one extreme and then another, we found the perfect apartment. It's two blocks from the bay, right by golden gate park. I can't wait to move in. We're signing the lease tonight and having a celebratory cocktail afterwords. Next stop, IKEA!
In other news, Mike is coming to visit! Between his and my birthdays. Hooray! Hopefully we'll find a farm baseball team to go see, as the Giants are, sadly, on the road.
I talked to my parents for a long time yesterday. I miss them alot. Apprently they were having a pretty painful weekend with some out-of-town guests, so my dad and I kept emailing back and forth all day. I hope they can come visit soon. lucky them, they're going to cuba and the bahamas next week.
I had pho for lunch. it was pho-tastic.
