Grissom pulled his state issued Denali in front of Sara's apartment at 7 AM on the dot. They had agreed that, even though their flight was at 11 AM, leaving at 7 would allow them plenty of time to get through ( Read more... )

Tired? No, exhausted, yes that was the word she'd used, exhausted from lack of sleep. Not only did Sara get off work just a few hours prior, but the time she was supposed to spend sleeping, she spent pacing instead. She spent it cursing Ecklie for being such an asshole. Career credits, couldn’t she earn it another way? Maybe more cases? Sara had pleaded within in an inch of her life to take her off this assignment, but with no luck, Ecklie held his ground and had given her no choice but to grunt an acceptance and stomp from his office. Who did he think he was anyways?Sara had packed and did everything in her power to keep her mind off Grissom and keep it focused at her packing task before her ( ... )

Grissom blinked in surprise when Sara swung the door open sharply. The sight before him amused him greatly, and it took all he had to not laugh. Instead he cocked an eyebrow and entered her apartment, shutting the door behind himself.

"I'll do it." He murmured, motioning he away from the suitcase. He opened it and chuckled softly at her packing method. After rearranging a few things, he was able to squeeze the suitcase shut and zip it.

"You realize there will be laundromats there, right?" He said teasingly, looking up at her over the rims of his glasses. That was yet another thing they'd be doing together. Laundry. Something so incredibly domestic, and in many ways more intimate then sex, even. And he would be doing laundry with Sara Sidle, the object of his fantsies and nightmares. For some reason he was saddened by the thought that it would be no where as intimate as it should. But he shook the thought out of his head and stood, grabbing her suitcase.

"Is there more?" He asked, licking his lips and shifting nervously.

Sara watched and had to roll her eyes as he shifted her stuff around and closed her case. "Yes, I do realize that I can do laundry there... I just have never been away from my home for so long." She shrugged and went into her bed room, grabbing her heavy sweater, her other suitcase and her purse.

"Get out, let's go." She sighed and pointed to the two mugs on the counter. "Oh. Grab one, I made two." She offered and went searching through her purse for her keys.

"You get the coffee." He murmured, gently taking her other suitcasae from her and fleeing the apartment. He took his time loading the suitcases into the back of the Denali, and used it to compose himself a little bit. Already he was nervous and they hadn't even started.

Slamming the hatch shut, he walked around to her side and opened her door for her before climbing into the driver's seat. Thrumming his fingers against the wheel, he waited for her and shifted uncomfortably.

Sara nodded quickly and swung her purse over her shoulder before taking hold of both mugs in one hand. It gave her a chance to catch her thoughts. She was very good at keeping her cool recently, it was a gift she had acquired after a year of being ignored and watching him from a far. Sara was sure she would be able to last another month, and if worse comes to worse she can book a flight home and tell Ecklie to shove it...

Again.

Sighing, Sara opened her door and stepped out, everything she needed in hand before locking it and walking to Grissom Denali.

Slipping in she held his mug out as she shut the door and buckled up.

"Thank you." Grissom murmured, truly appreciative. Reaching out to take the mug, he purposefully brushed his fingers against hers, blinking slightly in surprise at his move. He quickly pulled back and took a nervous sip of the coffee before glancing over at her.

"We're uh...I hope we can be friends again." He offered, wanting nothing more then to keep this time with her as unawkward as possible. Instead he felt like clawing his way from the car and running. Outwardly he simply sipped his coffee and watched her carefully.

"You're welcome." Sara stared at her fingers after the slight touch before looking out her window.

She was mid sip when the question came nearly causing her to choke, but her eyes went wide instead as she gulped and looked his way blinking. Sara wanted to scream, yell and hit him for what he had caused and explain that, that was no where near the appology she deserved, then stomp out of the car and lock herself in her apartment.

"I uh... yea. Me too." She was all she said, rather awkwardly before looking back out the window.

"You deserve more then that." He murmured, staring down in his coffee for a moment. He needed to get the courage up for what he needed to say to her. Instead he found himself clenching the mug tightly and hoping he wouldn't break it in his death grip.

"I know...you deserve more. I'm sorry for-God, for everything. I want to try, but I want to be your friend first." He spat out, plunking the cup in the cup holder and starting the car nervously.

Sara sighed and looked down at her drink. "Yea, you're right I definitely deserved a lot more." She whispered. "But what you're offering is enough. I don't expect more, I wouldn't dare expect more from you." Her voice was barely audible as she looked out the window.

"Ju-Just drive, we have 30 days to get through." She crossed her legs indicating that she was finished this discussion and rested her forehead on the window.

Grissom swallowed hard, terrified of what he had done. He kept quiet, afraid that breaking the silence would make her angry. He drove towards the airport and tried to figure out what to do.

She was mad, that much was obvious. Maybe if he took her to dinner? No, that was too much too soon. New York had a lot of museums...yes. He could definitely do that.

Sara let her eyes drift shut slowly, giving into a light sleep, her body trying to get back what she had missed earlier.

Who did he think he was anyways? Ignoring her for so long then wanting her to go back to normal at the snap of a finger. No, HELL no, if he wanted her trust and friendship, he was going to have to work for it.

HARD.

When they reached the airport, Grissom parked in the drop off lane and checked their baggage, including their laptops, before returning to park the car. Once he was parked, he woke Sara tenatively.

"Sara, we're here." He murmured, squeezing her arm gently to wake her.

Sara stirred and yawned as she felt his hand on her. Moaning and blinking the sleep from her eyes, She sat up slowly and looked around.

They were in fact at the airport.

"I'm up.." She yawned and went to unbuckle her seat belt.

"OK. I already checked our bags and have our boarding passes. All we have to do is go inside." Grissom said softly, handing her the boarding pass with her name on it before exiting the Denali. He meticulously checked all the doors to make sure that they were locked and that no valuables were left inside. Only then did he begin walking towards the airport.

Sara followed as she gripped her coffee and searched through her purse for her passport.

She quickly fell in step with him as they made their way to the first security gate, where she stood and began to fidget with her boarding pass.

Security took far too long. Grissom lost count of the times he had been groped, goosed, and patted down. And all by a rather large black man who looked more like a body builder then a security guard. With one last indignant look at the gruff man, he limped away from security hoping all his bits and pieces were still in tact.

"Do I look like a terrorist to you?" He grumbled at Sara, still clutching his shoes and trying to maintain some dignity.
