Title: It’s In The Air Up Here
Writer: Vince
Rating: PG
Summary: Welcome to Vermont The Green Mountain State. It occurred to me that this challenge would be fun so here is the boys working in my hometown…
Beta’d By:
tanisafan Nick stood there, tired and disoriented from the flight, as his and Greg’s bags emerged from the wall in the airport.
“So Nicky, you think there are like midgets back there, just tossing luggage all day?” Greg asked, trying to be humorous.
“I dunno Greg, why don’t you climb in there and look.”
“Well, I was just thinking it be funny, little keibler elf types heaving luggage?”
“Greg, you’re weird.”
“I know Stokes, that’s why you love me,” Greg responded with a huge fake smile.
After gathering their bags they exited the airport. Nick stopped for a moment to look around at the unfamiliar surroundings.
“So this is Vermont?” he said, taking in a deep breath.
“Yeah, the state with more mountains than a Playboy magazine.”
“You know Greg, civil union was legalized here a few years ago.”
“Really? Interesting,” Greg said, looking around. “Okay Nicky, where are all the fags?”
“Greg, my friend -- you are one,” Nick said, laughing.
Greg hailed down a cab to take them to the Radisson where they’d be staying for the next few days. Grissom thought it would be good to allow the criminal justice students of the University Of Vermont to talk with them about forensics. It was this big deal. A few criminalists from various cities would go to different college campuses to discuss what it was actually like to do this type of work. As they drove, they were both looking around at their new surroundings. Each feeling more out of place in a smaller city then they were used to.
“Nick, 2 lane highway.”
“I know, I am waiting to see a horse and buggy pass us.”
“This city is small.”
“This whole state is small and full of rednecks.”
“Nick, define redneck for me again.”
“Greg, a redneck is someone who is simple. They like to keep life simple.”
“Like you Nicky,” Greg responded with a grin.
“I am not a redneck.”
They arrived at the Radisson and checked in.
“Okay so you’re the criminalists from Las Vegas?” the receptionist asked.
“Yes,” Greg responded looking around.
“Umm, oh I am terribly sorry, but..” The receptionist trailed off.
“No,"I’m sorry’s" allowed,” Nick said, looking over the counter at the lady’s computer.
“Well sir, it seems as though the lady that made your reservations, never entered them into the computer. I only have one room available, a queen room, one bed,” she said, looking up at both men.
“You’re joking, right?” Greg asked, laughing a little. “You expect me to shack up with him?” he said, pointing at Nick. “He snores,” Greg said with a nod.
“I do not. This isn’t going to work. I mean, I don’t mind sharing a room with him, just - well, I am not sharing my bed.”
“I am truly sorry for this mistake. You’re welcome to take this room, and maybe something will become available,.” the lady said, trying to sooth Nick’s flared temper.
“Greg, let’s just take the room. I can bunk on the floor,” Nick snapped.
Once in the room, Greg threw his bag on the bed and opened the curtains.
“Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,” Greg said with a sigh.
“What now?” Nick asked as he unpacked his things.
“It’s just… I am so uncomfortable here. I can’t imaging people actually live here.”
“Well, I am sure more often than not they think that about Las Vegas.”
“You have got to be kidding me, Nicky. Las Vegas kicks ass,” Greg said, plopping down on the bed.
“Well, at least while you’re here, Greg, you can hook up with some hillbilly redneck guy and have some fun,” Nick said, throwing a wadded up t-shirt at Greg.
“Haha. That would be on your agenda Nick, not mine,.” Greg responded, tossing the shirt back at him.
“Aww, come on Greggo, there is a first time for everything.”
“Nick, it has occurred to me that you have been talking about being gay since we got off the plane.”
“Yeah well, before this was the green mountain state. Now it’s affectionately called the gay state.”
“Nick, are you gay?” Greg asked, sitting up on his elbows.
“Do you want me to be, Greg?” Nick asked sarcastically.
“Depends, my friend. I mean, it has been a long time since anyone gave me head,” Greg said, laughing.
“For a second there, I thought you were serious,” Nick said, walking into the bathroom.
“Maybe I was, Nick,” Greg hollered toward the bathroom.
Nick stopped and peered his head out of the door way at Greg, who had opened a magazine. “What are you smoking, man?” Nick asked.
“Nothing. It’s just… well, what happens in Vermont, stays in Vermont,” Greg said with a wink.
“I thought that was Vegas’ slogan.”
“Yeah it is, but we ain’t in Vegas, Nicky,” Greg said, standing up and walking over to the doorway.
“Greg, my previous comment about you being weird still stands,” Nick said, watching Greg inch closer.
“Come on Nick, it could be fun and hell, you might like it.”
“I take it you have done this before?” Nick asked, turning back into the bathroom to put his stuff away.
“Nope my friend, never, but..."
“But what?” Nick asked, walking out of the bathroom.
“But, I wouldn’t mind trying it--with you that is,” Greg said, sitting back down on the bed.
Nick stood there, trying to decide if this was Greg being Greg or if he was serious. Hard to tell with Greg; he generally said crazy stuff to get a rise out of people.
Nothing more was mentioned about it, and around nine, they decided to get ready for bed. Nick made a makeshift bed on the floor and laid down. As I he laid there, I he kept thinking about what Greg had said. Part of him had always wondered what it would be like, but I he had never been in a situation where it could possibly happen. he lay there in silence, staring at the ceiling. He heard Greg stir and eventually get out of bed. Nick swallowed hard and closed my his eyes.
“Just going to the john, man. Relax,” He said as he stepped over Nick.
Nick lay there, waiting for him to finish and get back in bed. It seemed like hours, but before too long Greg had shed his robe and was back in bed.
“Good night Nicky,” Greg said with a yawn.
“Night Greggo” he responded.
Nick kept tossing and turning because the floor was so uncomfortable. He tried to get to sleep but it just wasn’t happening.
“Nick, why don’t you sleep in the bed with me?”
“Why? So you can molest me in my sleep?”
“Interesting thought, but no.”
“Yeah well, I ain’t a gambling man so I will ride it out on the floor.”
“Nick, get in this bed or neither of us are going to sleep tonight with you thrashing around.”
Nick stood up, took his blanket and pillow and climbed into bed next to Greg. Lying there frigid as a corpse, Nick could feel Greg breathing next to him. It was a strange position to be in. Greg rolled over and faced him, His eyes still shut. Nick lay there and watched him as if Greg was gonna rape him or something.
“Nick, will you relax?”
“Greg… it’s just… well, you know.”
“No I don’t know, but your all tense and shit.”
“Yeah, I am sorry. I shouldn’t be so uptight.”
“No you shouldn’t,” Greg said, putting his hand on Nick’s leg.
“Umm Greg, that’s my leg,” Nick said, almost paralyzed.
“I know Nicky,” he replied, sitting up slightly and moving his head on to Nick’s chest.
Nick put his arm around Greg and lay there trembling. He’d never had another man this close to him before. Somehow it made it okay that it was Greg, but he was still terribly uncomfortable.
“Nicky, your heart is beating out of your chest.”
“I know; it’s because I am --”
“I know what you are,” Greg said, cutting off Nick’s thoughts and placing a gentle kiss on his lips.
“Greg?” Nick said, pushing Greg away from him. “I’m not sure this is okay.”
“Nick, it’s okay -- just go with it,” Greg said, kissing Nick again.
Nick lay there almost helpless, feeling Greg’s tongue against his own. It was as if a bolt of lightning had struck him. He felt this wave of emotions as he took Greg in his arms and rolled him onto his back, still kissing him and feeling the passion they had for each other….
After a moment they pulled away from each other.
“Greg, what’s happening?” Nick asked, out of breath.
“You’re feeling something.”
“I am not gay.”
“It’s in the air up here Nicky -- go with it,” Greg responded, pulling Nick down on top of him.
