Thanks to season 7 and the overabundance of angst bunnies it produces, I needed some crack to compensate. So yeah, this is a silly little ficlet which took me all of fifteen minutes and was written at 1 in the morning.

Pairing: mild Nick/Greg
Rating: PG
Words: 562

“You gotta sing, Nicky, come on!”

Nick raised his eyebrows in Catherine’s general direction. “Not in this lifetime, I don’t.”

Warrick groaned and let his head fall down onto the table with a slight thud. “Well, someone had better go up there and sing, ‘cause if I have to listen to one more verse of Sara singing ‘I’m so excited’, I’m gonna hang myself.”

Nick grinned, but it turned into a flinch when Sara hit a particularly high note. “I hear you… And I think she’s not even drunk yet.” He let his gaze wander across the booth until it rested on Greg, who was picking the label off his bottle and looking at Sara with an dazed grin. “Unlike some people.”

Greg just smiled sweetly at him and turned his attention back to the tragedy at hand; hollering, “Get off the stage, Sidle!”

Sara shot him an mock-offended glare and smirked. “Only if you take my place, Greg,” she said into the microphone.

“It is but a word!” Greg said dramatically, elbowing Warrick in the ribs so he could slide out of the booth. “Behold the incredible vocal stylings of Greg Sanders,” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else as he swaggered slightly and took the mic from Sara. “So, what’s the next song?” He peered at the screen and groaned loudly when the first lines to ‘Stayin’ Alive’ showed up against the blue background.

“Piece o’cake,” Greg snorted when Warrick began laughing loudly. Nick was beginning to suspect that he might have had a bit too much to drink as well.

“Aww, isn’t he cute?” Catherine giggled, and Nick was now fairly sure that everyone was drunk with the exception of him and Sara. Catherine never giggled. “Don’t you think so, Nicky?” She raised a suggestive eyebrow, and Nick felt a blush creep onto his cheeks.

“Yeah, if you’re ever gonna make a move, tonight’s the night, man,” Warrick chimed in, taking a big swig of his beer to hide his grin.

“Could you guys lay off?” Nick said through clenched teeth, even through he couldn’t quite suppress a smile. Especially not when he glanced over at the stage, where Greg was swaying his hips and singing in a high squeaky voice.

When the song ended, Greg swaggered back and slid into the booth next to Nick, so Nick was squashed in between Greg and Catherine. “I rule,” Greg mumbled as he leaned over Nick to grab his beer. Nick sucked in an involuntary breath and closed his eyes embarrassedly when Sara and Catherine collapsed into a fit of giggles.

Yep. Everyone was drunk except for him.

“Gotta go to the bathroom,” Greg announced, practically loud enough for the whole bar to hear. He drummed his hands on the table top and pushed himself onto his feet.

Catherine, Sara and Warrick were now collectively raising their eyebrows at Nick, and Catherine suggestively jutted her head in the direction of the bathroom. Nick sighed deeply and admitted defeat.

“Yeah, me too,” he said, earning him three big grins as he got up and followed Greg to the bathroom.

“I thought only girls went to the bathroom together?” Sara yelled at him.

Nick stuffed his hands into his pockets and walked backwards, shooting her a good-natured grin. “Bite me, Sara,” he retorted cheerfully, before letting the bathroom swing shut behind him.
