“I don’t care that you’re the King of Narnia, Susan is MY sister!”, Peter shouted, hitting Caspian in the face with every single word.

Caspian tried to remain calm, but he couldn’t help but feel so angry.

“What makes you think I can’t take care of her, for the rest of my life?”, he answered, desperately trying to make eye contact.

The latter was avoiding that, because he knew he would easily give in as he would see Caspians begging look.

“Caspian, just think about it. You will fight in the royal army, you could get killed…”, Peter started, but the King interrupted.

“Susan would go with me. We both know her, she is stubborn when it comes to fighting!”, he said, an Peter gave him no answer. Caspian was right. Whatever the danger might be, Susan would fight alongside them.

“It’s not about me getting killed… is it? It’s about her. Her innocence to which I could become a threat”, Caspian said slowly, breaking the awkward silence.

Peter shook his head, but his eyes betrayed him. Caspian was right again.

“Peter the Magnificent, I am dumbfounded. Susan is going to be my Queen. We are equal towards each other. There could never be a situation in which I’d make her do something against her will. No single kiss, touch or other form of contact will be without her permission. I’m a man of honor, and do not intent to break hers to pieces”, Caspian spoke, looking Peter in the eyes.

The latter rolled his eyes and answered:

“Susan would think everything you do is right. She has fallen for you, and you would take advantage of it!”, he spoke firmly.

Caspian took a few steps closer.

“I am disappointed in you. Protecting your sister is one thing, but insulting me of indecent behavior…”, he whispered.

“Back in our world, many guys admired her. Wanted to have her, in the most disgusting way you could think of. How do I know you’re not the same?”, Peter said, narrowing his eyes.

Caspians heart jumped around in his chest. He was so close now to getting approval…

“I don’t want Susan in that way. I need her, for the person she is. Not until our wedding night, there will be even the slightest inappropriate behavior between us. If that is what it takes to make you think good of me, I will do it. But I’m not less disappointed in Susan oldest brother”, he said, and Peter looked surprised. His whole appearance softened for a moment.

“I am sorry, Caspian. I’m just scared for her. I know you are an honorable man, descent and willing to keep to the vow you just suggested. There is no need to. Susan can look after herself, and I’ll keep an eye on you as well. But don’t hurt her, or you’ll get in serious trouble”, he said.

Caspian let out a sigh of relief. “I’m glad you finally see…”, he answered. Peter stretched out his hand.

“You have my blessing”, he said as Caspian shook the friendly feeling hand. Caspian nodded and thanked him.

“Now, if you’d excuse me, I’ve got an appointment with Aslan”, Peter said, and walked out of Caspians bedroom. They had decided to go there, to make their conversation a private one. With a deep sigh, Caspian sank down on his bed, thinking about all that was said. He woke up when he heard a knock on the door.

“Come in?”, he said, wondering about who it could be.

The wooden door swung open, and there she was. The woman he would love forever. Her everlasting smile filled the room, and made him so happy. Susan walked towards him and sat next to him. She was excited, and Caspian smiled.

“So… How did the talk go?”, she asked. Caspian shook his head out of wonder.

“Not that good, but he gave us his blessing. And I’m thinking about making him my witness”, he answered.

Susan laughed, and gave him a hug. Her arms felt incredibly safe, and he closed his eyes.

“That’s fantastic! I’ve seen this dress, down in the village. It’s so beautiful, and I felt like a real Queen when I tried it on!”, she said.

“But you already are one!”, Caspian said, but his thoughts drifted to the conversation between him and Peter. His words made Caspian doubt about himself. About the honor he thought he was made of, and the way he couldn’t bare to take away Susans innocence. But when she wrapped her arms around him like this, he felt a strong desire that he could not control. He needed to hear those words out of his own mouth again. The words he told Peter, and the ones he wanted Susan to hear too. He let go of her, and took her hand instead. Looking straight into her big, shining eyes, he asked:

“Queen Susan, will you please ask me what my intentions are towards you?”. Susan frowned, but did as he asked.

“My love, what are your intentions towards me?”.

Caspian smiled, and the words rolled over his tongue, like they had been waiting to get out.

“To make you my Queen, to cherish you as a person, equal to me. To love you and to honor you, for as long as I may live”, he spoke.

Susans eyes filled with tears and she squeezed his hand.

“Those are intentions belonging to a true King. And that is what you are, my Caspian”, she smiled, and kissed him softly on the lips.

Caspian flew to heaven at the touch of soft lips against his, and he knew it was alright. He couldn’t bear to damage her innocence, not for all the gold or jewels in the world. Not for any trade.
