This is way beyond my remote concern of being condescending

Rob Thomas was recently quoted saying that his reason for going solo is that "There are things I want to say that I just couldn't say with Matchbox Twenty."

Now, as most of you know, I'm a big Matchbox fan. Not only do I know every word to every song on their three albums, but I also know almost all of the stuff they released under the name "Tabitha's Secret" back when only 3 of the members made up the band with 2 extras, One being so young that he was not even legally allowed into the bars they were playing in at night. I know that Paul keeps a baby doll head in the wings of the stage when he performs as good luck, and I know that the only jewish member of the band, Brian Yale, has a cousin named Alex whom I actually went to the University of Vermont with 2 summers ago and shared many meals with. In fact, he was hooking up with a girl across the hall from me. I know that all of the guys smoke except Brian, and that Rob Thomas was born in Germany to American parents on Valentine's Day, and that he is married to a model named Marisol.

These guys were my favorite band for a long time, and I have a lot of respect for the group, especially Paul.

BUT. I'd like to say that Rob Thomas has nothing to say. He never did, and he never will. His lyrics through the years have been pretty good. With song names like "This is Not a Love Song" and album names like "Yourself of Someone Like You," Rob has always been good with words. But he has nothing important to say, and he is certainly not saying it through his songs like "I don't want to be lonely no more."

I still love Matchbox Twenty, and the talent that lies with that band, but I think that this is the begining of Thomas' demise. And I have to say, he damn well deserves it.

I'm outs!
