Silence in the Library - Episode Review

May 31, 2008 23:10

I was ridiculously excited about this episode and it did not disappoint.

I love the Moff too much for words.

LOVED: Long list this time.

- The River Song/Doctor thing. Is it just me that would love the Doctor to go all domestic like that, but still travel in the TARDIS? And I quite liked River Song, I love how forward she was.

- “Pretty boy.” *sporfle* And the Doctor not realising she was talking to him. Oh Doctor you have no idea…

- The premise of the episode. Libraries are such great settings for creepy stories.

- The monsters, the Vashta Nerada (sp?) Finally a genuinely scary monster. Which will undoubtedly mean that little kids will be checking they don’t have two shadows for years to come

DIDN’T LOVE SO MUCH: Ummm, there wasn’t really a part of the writing or the plot that I can find massive fault in, but the Data Ghosts were more than a little disturbing.

Okay, so first of all.

Steve Pemberton was in Doctor Who! He was an absolute git like he was in Blackpool, but I still bounced excitedly and went “Oh its him!” He seems to be in everything these days. Can’t for the life of me think what I’ve seen him in recently, but I know I have.

And Talulah Riley! I knew it was her but no one else seemed to know who I meant. I am very good with faces.

Okay, so thoughts on…

River Song - Future wife/lover/companion of the Doctor BUT I’ve heard this story is going to be like Girl in the Fireplace SO does that mean she dies? Probably - this is DW after all, and God-forbid that the Doctor should have any happiness in his life.

However, I love her because she is possibly the first person ever to call the Doctor “sweetie” and “pretty-boy”

Donna - She is saved, so for now, I’m not particularly worried about her. BUT, River Song recognises the name and Donna asks why she’s not there with them. BUT (and I like using capitals today) these hints that Donna is going to die are so obviously massive. We all know that saying you’re going to travel with the Doctor for ever is pretty much signing your own death warrant, but the conversation between Donna and River Song made it sound a bit too… obvious? Y/N? Maybe Donna doesn’t die, even though I’ve been convinced she will since tDD. What does everyone else think?

Data Ghosts - Like I said, creepy and disturbing, and as soon as I saw Miss Evangalista I knew she’d be the first to get got. And when she asked for Donna was so sad.

Vashta Nerada - Steven Moffat is the only person in the Universe who can make me look twice at shadows. “You’ve got two shadows.” *shiver* Brilliant. (and the return of “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” Haven’t heard that one in a while.

All in all, a fantastic episode, as I expected, and I can’t wait for the next one…
