I was going to say "two more days till 31." But actually, it's more like the rest of today, and then tomorrow, and then I'm 31.
Then again, I wasn't born till night, so I suppose it's like 2 days and change.
31!
Yeah, 30's been great. I enjoyed 2012. If the world ends, no worries. I did okay. I, you know, moved from Chicago to Rhode Island. I went to Canada three times. I made new friends. I performed at my public library and hosted a Weirding of Westerly.
I wrote two novellas: "Martyr's Gem" and "The Bone Swans of Amandale" - the latter of which I really OUGHT to revise. I wrote two and a half short stories: "10 Cigars" and "The Loveliest" (both currently making rounds), and
The Post-Argentum Face-off of Emma-Anne and the Loping Man" (this is the half).
I finished the last revisions of Shadowstalkers and submitted it to four agents (it is currently with the fourth; we'll see...).
And I started revising Miscellaneous Stones: Assassin. And this last week? I figured out Books Two and Three! So now I'll have an outline!
I worked at the Mystic Aquarium. I went to two conventions. And joined a writing group in New York City... I went to New York City!!! Like, FIVE TIMES! And I visited Salem and Cat's Island in Maine and Baltimore and Boston and BELCHERTOWN - and this week (when I am FRESHLY 31) I'm going to the Shrine of Edna St. Vincent-Millay in Camden.
I had visits from several dear far away friends and family members - and will soon have more! (And now have rearranged the Purple Parlor to be EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL for guests!) I have moved the furniture in my room at least 6 times!
I wrote more letters to my grandmother. And lots of letters to friends. I wrote poetry. Yes - "The Hooligan" and "Threnody" and "It Only Takes a Cauldron and a Dash of Thyme" and "What Is Owed" and... I'm sure others, too. And a couple of songs.
Yes. And I celebrated Summer Solstice with Julia Rios at the BEACH, and I hiked in our town forest, and I helped Sita with the garden, and gave her LOTS OF MASSAGES, and I roasted a whole chicken, and made my own bread, and ALL KINDS OF THINGS!
And "The Last Sophia" is in
Rich Horton's Year's Best, and my POETRY COLLECTION
How to Flirt in Faerieland and Other Wild Rhymes came out with Papaveria Press - and, and, and!!!
I have not yet rented a car. Maybe next year. :) Also, I want to learn to play the guitar. And learn more Spanish and French verbs. And go to Italy. I WANT IT ALL!
It is good. It is good. It is good.
And if I am restless - that is all to the good. It will make me DO THINGS.
Here are some pictures of me at nearly 31. They are silly. I was playing with my camera and my newly mounted mirror that Bek and Nin gave me.
And that's about it!
