I have a new project that probably will not last, but I'm giving it a go.
First Pip and I are going to give brief book report. We read aloud from a book every evening before bed. Pip will give her opinion on the book and then I will give you an adult prospective. These will be mainly young adult or children's fiction, we won't bore with things like The Magic Treehouse series.
We just finished:
The Search for Wondla by Tony DiTerlizzi
Pip - Eva is free spirited and adventurous. Early on in the book her Sanctuary was destroyed by an alien. After Eva escapes, she goes back for her Muthr, the robot mother that raised her. Eva also finds a traveling companion named Rovender Kitt. The three of them go in search of Eva's Wondla and encounter many wonders and dangers on the way. I enjoyed the artwork in the book. I liked the book so much that I could wait to start the second book.
cschoolgirl - Eva Nine, our heroine, has been raised in an underground Sanctuary by a robot. Muthr, the robot, has spent the last 12 years raising and training Eva for survival in the outside world. Eva's Sanctuary is breached by an alien and Muthr helps Eva escape to the outside then fights off their attacker. On the surface nothing is as it should be, all the normal planet Earth flora and fauna have been replaced by alien life forms. So begins Eva's journey to find other humans, in a place she thinks of as Wondla.
This is a good, easy read. Eva adapts to her new world with the help of her alien friend Rovender Kitt; even her mother robot must learn to go beyond her programming to survive and help Eva. I was able to put a few things clues together before Pip, but that didn't take away from the story. Some of the chapter illustrations give away a main point in the chapter, but that only encouraged us to read on and see what lead to the event. Over all, if you like science fiction with a female heroine, this might be a good book to pick up.
The second part is a recipe.
Today's recipe is
Crispy Grain Free Waffles.
I'm all about easy recipes and this one is the easiest waffle recipes I've found. Not only are they good, but they freeze well and I even bought a toaster after living without one for 3 years. We've used the waffle sections to make ham and egg sandwiches and when you're sick it is a great comfort food.
If you don't want to follow the link I will put the recipe under the cut.
Crispy Waffles
Ingredients:
2 C almond flour
1 C Tapioca Starch
1 tblsp + 1tsp baking powder
¼ C coconut sugar
½ tsp sea salt
½ C melted butter
1 C milk
2 eggs
2 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Combine all dry ingredients, add in the wet ingredients. Mix until combined, doesn't need to be real smooth.
Ladle batter into preheated waffle iron. To make them crispy use the top heat setting. My waffle iron uses roughly a ½ C of batter for one waffle, resulting in 6 perfect waffles (or 7 unique snowflakes).
These waffles freeze well. I put half a waffle in a sandwich ziplock bag, then pull it out and put in the toaster when needed.
