update: all the things
So, somehow it's been over two months since I posted anything... I guess I'll just hit the highlights?
The boy is done with school. That final week is always crazy, but it was nice. They did a lovely culmination ceremony and a picnic at Kenneth Hahn park afterwards. He's had a bunch of get-togethers with friends since school let out, which is wonderful, of course, but I'm pretty done with all the driving that necessitates. I can't say no, though, since we're moving.
The girl still has four more days of school, although they're all shortened or minimum days. Her culmination is Thursday and we're going to try and go to ice cream with a school friend of hers afterwards and then she has an overnight scheduled with another friend that night. She went to Disneyland yesterday with the whole 8th grade class. They were there for 11 hours and she was SO TIRED when we picked her up. I guess it was a nice day overall, but the lines were so long that they didn't end up doing many rides--maybe six?
Our rent-back on this house ends this Sunday, so we're in the final packing push. We send our container away on Friday, pick up a U-Haul Saturday for the stuff we'll need at my parents' house (plus whatever we don't want to send in the container) and head north. Hopefully we can do it all in one day, but if we have to spend the night somewhere it'll be okay. I booked a motel room for this Thursday and Friday, too, since we'll have to pack our furniture by that point.
We're in escrow on a GREAT house in San Jose! Our loan just got approved, so all we're waiting for is the appraisal to come back. We offered the sellers 30 days free rent-back (par for the course in that market right now), so it may be August 7th by the time we take possession, but if they find housing before then it could be sooner. We'll have to tent for termites and probably set aside a day for cleaning (although the house is really in good shape), but we should be able to get moved in by the time the girl starts school (high school!!) on August 17th. The boy doesn't start till the 20th, so we have a few more days there. (He'll be able to walk to his middle school!)
I'm so exhausted from all the packing, driving and saying goodbye to friends. Plus, our credit card account got hacked a few weeks ago and then our new cards never came because the new people decided to forward all the mail for this address to somewhere else... They are not my favorite people right now. Anyway, that whole debacle caused me a lot of stress, to say the least! I've had a little ulcer thing happening for the last two months, but I'm pretty confident that I'll feel a lot better once we get up to San Jose. I've gotten to a point where if I watch what I eat and take my ulcer medicine I feel okay most of the time.
I've not been getting a lot of writing done, although there are days now and then when I do sit down and work on the small town contemporary. I've also been knitting--working on the Minecraft pillowcase I started ages ago. That's about all my brain can handle at times. (I've been watching Murdoch Mysteries while I knit, but sometimes even that is too much stimulation.) I've been binge reading the Longmire mysteries--for some reason I just can't focus on anything else. And I'm not sure I could manage one of those tonight, either!
