There is a house for sale on my side of town. It sits along a five lane road in a better than average neighborhood. It is a pretty brick house on a corner lot with a well-cared-for yard that I enjoy peeking at as I drive by. Well, the house is for sale and has two typical real estate signs that sit next to the two perpendicular roads. Apparently they had a yard sale in the past few months in prep for selling the house. During that yard sale, their dog was lost/stolen. So, between the two For Sale signs in their front yard is a large (3x5ft?) banner that in large letters offers a $4000 reward for their stolen dog. The banner talks about how the dog was stolen from the house during the yard sale.
Maybe it is just my marketing/promotions/communications training jumping forward, but the two sets of signs really annoys me. My heart goes out to the family that their dog went missing somehow. They obviously care deeply about the pet considering the sign they made and the reward that they are offering. But I have to imagine that the large Stolen Dog sign detailing how the dog was stolen from their house in the middle of the day during a yard sale has resulted in some potential buyers skipping the house because of crime concerns.
Just one more bit of info for you...the Stolen Dog sign has been posted for at least two months. Does anyone think that Stolen Dog sign is going to turn up a lead now despite there not being any obvious discovery in the past 60+ days? Is the love for this family's missing dog ruining their chances to sell their house soon and for a good price? Is it time for them to pull up the Stolen Dog sign - for their financial well-being as well as emotionally moving on? Am I just a heartless guy?
