Your post went a bit screwy but I still read and I loves. *snuggles* lovely little angsty fic hun. *grins* You know me and my obsession with Ianto's beliefs and this fits wonderfully into that category! XD
::snugs you:: Am glad you approve X) I adore the idea of Ianto being a believer and having this kind of religion/faith, I'm not sure why, he just comes across as the sort of wounded soul that needs a God to turn to.
I do have to say, though... one line in this triggered a thought: (well, actually it's a couple of lines) Is Ianto's attraction to Jack the fact that Jack can't die? After his loss of Lisa, did he subconsciously latch onto Jack so that he wouldn't have to go through that pain of death again?
There was a line in this that I removed which listed Jack as someone he'd lost, but then whom he'd gotten back. I hadn't considered that his attraction to Jack would be for the immortality side of things, as I like to think he was attracted to Jack before he found out that Jack could not die. Could the knowledge have made him love him more? Need him more? Who knows. I'm torn between thinking that Ianto would be thankful that he'd never lose Jack and disheartened that he'd lose him at the same time.
Yeah, I was going to say that in my original note and then erased it-- that I think the attraction between Jack and Ianto goes beyond that, especially since Ianto didn't find out until the end of S1. But maybe his attraction started as hero-worship ('cause, dude... who DOESN'T hero-worship Jack?) and then was subconsciously made stronger when he realized that Jack could *be* this super-human person and could save the world and make a difference in other people's lives-- and wouldn't have to worry about the danger involved.
I think Ianto's probably a little of both... he knows that he doesn't really have to worry about Jack when it comes to *death*, but he's met former loves from Jack's life and knows that Jack could move on at any time, and he'd lose him that way. I imagine it's a very daunting thing to be in love with Jack Harkness, and Ianto seems like the sort who would be plagued with self-doubt.
I like this theory, that Ianto fell in love first with the man and then the immortality- but at the same time is trying to fight his heart and maintain the distance... because, really, how can you hold on to a man like Jack Harkness?
