Sometimes, rarely, advertising can be fun.

I love it when I see an ad that makes me think "I wish I had done that." It doesn't happen that often. Lots of dreck out there. But these print ads, created by a South African agency for binoculars, are just that type of ad. Funny in an Onion sort of way. The photos are funny, but take the time to read the body copy. It's worth it.

I've never actually bought anything by him. And that's not for any particular reason other than oversight. I can actually remember holding a Red House Painters cd at the Virgin in San Francisco shortly after I got there, thinking I was going to buy it. But, I was so broke, it was that cd, or a microwave meal. I chose the meal. The "never bought anything" part is kind of weird though; he has been one of those artists that I read about and just missed out on. I was listening to the sample from that album over on Sound Fix just last week and enjoyed it. There's a list of bands like this; ones where I think "I should own something by them...but don't." Mission of Burma, Beachouse (though I just bought one of theirs), Andrew Bird, etc. It's weird. It's not a dislike, it's just they don't make it into the pile somehow.

I'd go check it out, but think now, I'll just wait and get it from you. Gimme! I have lots in tow this weekend to make the swap...but I believe you won't be around. Ant and Ben will have it all though.

I've got two of the older albums (Ghosts of the Great Highway and Tiny Cities) and I love them both. Tiny Cities is actually covers of Modest Mouse songs that Kozelek did to show off Isaac's songwriting prowess. It was in heavy rotation for me for about half a year after I picked it up and highly recommend it.

That's another one I almost picked up. It came out when I was in DC and I remember initially not knowing it was an album of covers, but when listening to it at the soundbar at Tower Records I remember thinking "hey...these are modest mouse songs."
