Well, I thought I had a job, and I was really excited to move forward....and then it all came to a halt.
I went to meet with the superintendent of Weston last Wednesday. It was scary as hell, but my friend had gone the day before (and signed a contract to teach elementary school) and said that they couldn't stop raving about me and my lesson. So I was pretty confident.
Well we had the interview, and I messed up one question. I just misinterpreted it, and couldn't get back on track really. However, I don't think that the answer I gave was terrible, nor would it justify throwing away my application. That being said, after their little pow wow about me, I was called back in with the head of human resources. He tells me that they want to wait for the Principal to be back, she's out of town, because the vice principal couldn't answer all the superintendent questions. Also, the principal had apparently not checked all my references, and had only listed one that she had called, so they would need to do that. They also didn't have my transcript which I definitely sent. So, he told me it wasn't a no, it wasn't a yes, it was a hold. They needed to get everything together and they'd get back to me "early next week". He said there were some reservations about classroom management and dealing with parents (which are new areas for any new teacher!) but if I got serious with any other district to let them know because that would expedite the process.
I cried the whole way home.
I know that it's most likely nothing that I did, but I couldn't help but dwell on my poor answer to that one question and wonder if I lost the chance at the job. They still haven't called me, and it's almost mid-day on Wednesday. I'm going to call them tomorrow if I don't hear anything and I'm trying to remain optimistic...Looks like I might have jumped the gun on telling you all, and that I'll have to send out some more applications.
I just hope that I'm able to relax next week and enjoy my vacation after all...
