Hello my lovely American friends,
I have arrived in jolly England!!! And I am loving it!! I've been here for three full days now, and my goodness I have done so much!!
Sunday we arrived around 6:30am but didn't end up leaving the airport till around 10. Our flat is wonderful, the location is the BEST. Most of the stuff is kinda cheap so it's falling apart because a lot of college students have lived here and ruined it over the years. But, it's totally worth it. I'm living with two fabulous girls and we all have fun together. There are two girls here that I could possibly do without...but not enough to ruin anything. Anywho, we got here and all unpacked a bit. I had only slept maybe 40 minutes, but I was determined to stay awake to try to get adjusted to the time zone here. We went to Regent's Park and there was this huge rugby celebration going on for the team that was leaving for the World Cup, it was called Scrum in the Park. It was awesome, lots of Brits and very few tourists! We walked for hours around, stopped by the zoo, took the bus somewhere, got tube cards and rode the tube, went to dinner at the pub, and then I passed out at 9pm.
Monday we all slept in pretty late. We did some grocery shopping, did some banking, got our UK cell phones! After charging them a bit, we walked to St. Paul's Cathedral. It was beautiful, but we couldn't get into the dome, so we have to go back. We then wandered our way down to the Thames, and what do we spot across the river? Could it be the GLOBE?!!???? So yes, we ran across the Milennium Bridge past the Tate Modern and went to the Globe for a tour. I was soooo amazed. We are going on Friday for the Merchant of Venice. HOLY CRAP! I am SUCH a dork. We came home, got all dressed up, and went out to a discotech! (club) We were the first to arrive, the guy at the dork was the biggest asshole ever because he hated Americans apparently, and it just continued to get more and more interesting. Two guys came with us, and they were told to take off their collared shirts because they weren't "alternative" enough and needed to dress down. oooh boy. So many guys wearing tight jeans, glitter, big hair. Girls were all scrubbed out and looking like they haven't showered in like weeks. It was fabulous. A couple girls got too drunk to stay, and people started leaving in groups (13 of us went). It ended up being just me and my friend Jess at the end. We were dancing with these British boys...one of which told me he could dance "American" which I was so excited about. British people dance funny. All arms...no touching. I'm just not used to it. So yeah. Good times. Then neither Jess nor I knew where to go to get home, ended up walking a mile in the wrong direction and having to take a cab home before we got attacked. She's like 5'2" and skinny and I was slightly drunk. Bad combo.
Today we slept late again. Oops. We had this orientation thing for our work visas, where we found out that we all got the wrong stamps at the airport and have to go back. which is an hour away...and there is a TUBE STRIKE going on right now so barely any cars are running. FABULOUS. So that's what we are doing tomorrow morning.
After that, we took a bus to try to get to Harrod's, but it was so packed and took too long so we got off. We stopped by Leicester square where the Atonement movie premiere was going on with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy...I saw Keira's tiara-d head and that was it. Ate some pizza and Ben & Jerry's (thank gooood!) and then we went to the theatre district. Two girls and I went to see Les Miserables. It was beyond amazing and beautiful. A few times I barely could breathe I was so moved.
I love it here, there is just so much to do!! Too bad everything is so freakin expensive and I'm spending double when I convert pounds to dollars in my mind. Whatever, money is nothing compared to these experiences!!
I'm going to upload photos to facebook sometime soon...the internet signal in my flat isn't great (we only get it in one room which is why I'm not on all the time) and when you try to upload it just crashes. So I may go to a cafe or something.
Alright ladies and gents, good night and miss you! :)
