[It's windy today. The day before was overcast. Winry's glad it isn't raining. She heads toward the smithy, but bypasses that to head up toward where the Hanami was. The girl knows the trees are most likely done blooming, but she didn't want to head toward the lake. Once at her final destination she'll observe the trees a bit before writing in her ( Read more... )

[Like the others, Raine's response won't come until after the fighting is over for the day. There might be a slight hint of tiredness in her voice.]

Hello, Winry. I hope you weren't waiting too long.

I have no problem with arranging some lessons with you - and yes, I do know standard medical techniques as well - though they'll have to wait until I return, at least. Have you been in contact with the healing spirit at all?

No, I expected to have to wait.

[-Oh. She didn't realize Raine had been drafted too.] I understand. And no, I haven't tried contacting any of the spirits. In fact I had never actually intended to.

I see... if you don't have any other form of healing ability, contacting that particular spirit should be your first step, though it may take some time. From there it's a matter of maintaining contact and learning what you can do with the magic itself. But while you're working on that, we should be able to study the non-magical techniques just fine.

I'll try to get in touch with that one, then. Is there... any certain way to go about doing it?

I know some basics and first aid from reading my parent's medical texts, but I'm not a trained doctor. Thank you for agreeing to train me, Miss Raine.

Nala can be heard almost anywhere, but it may be easier in a quiet place. Focusing your thoughts on healing, and displaying a willingness to learn... since you've already done so with me, it won't be that much difference. She has a very gentle presence, so you'll know when she's there.

A quiet place... [Perhaps somewhere well into the forest, away from the noise of the town. She may have to deal with Moro then, but it might be worth it.]

I've never done anything like this before, so I may need a lot of time and help.

Just somewhere you feel comfortable, and won't be easily distracted.

Everyone is pretty much in the same situation when it comes to learning the spirit's magic, so don't worry. I'm sure you'll be just fine once you start getting used to it.

Again, thank you so much. [She was a bit uncertain about this before, but now she's a little encouraged.] Do you use the spirit's magic, or something from your home world?

It usually ends up a mix of both abilities, as most injuries and ailments here can require different approaches... and I like to keep myself balanced, as a personal preference.

The spirit's magic on it's own can address quite a few issues, so you'll find it very helpful.

Right. I've noticed that someone skilled in healing magic is able to easily fix something that would have probably required surgery otherwise.

That's right. Magic can't solve everything, of course... but at it's basic level it helps the body restore itself at a much faster rate than it would on it's own.

Is there a specific limit to what the spirit's magic can do?

It depends on the manner of injury, and how much a caster has learned, among other varying factors. Magic isn't very precise... under some conditions it works better, and other times it may take a while before taking the intentioned effect. That's why I've studied non-magical techniques as well.

[...So it's finicky. Great.] Makes sense. I'm eager to start taking lessons from you, Miss Raine.

And if you need your rest from the fighting, please don't let keep you.

All right, then. We'll talk more once I've returned to the village, and after you begin some basic contact with Nala.
