Fic: Thirty Years of Winter aka Birthday Presents (and severus_fest recs)
I wrote Birthday Presents for severus_fest, which in the intervening month since posting I've decided is a crap title, so I've reposted it on AO3 as Thirty Years of Winter, just to add to the confusion XD This was originally meant to be another, much longer fic, but I ran out of time and had to switch gears. Thanks to perverse_idyll again for the quick and fabulous beta, and to the mods at severus_fest for granting me the extension to submit something!
We have a huge amount of stuff to today before Sunday ceases being Sunday but I do think I've waited long enough to mention recs, so I'll write only briefly about my favorites of the fest. I might forget a thing or two, and if I do, I beg your forgiveness! In the interest of time, I'm also leaving out things like warnings & pairing unless it comes up; please read the headings before moving onto the fic!
His Heavenly Cause by suitesamba - One of the first entries of the fest that really impressed me with its ability to pack an emotional punch in so few words. It's a simply beautiful fic.
The Greater Good by tambra - Severus is haunted by ghosts. This fic has wonderful atmosphere and is a fascinating read!
WIB by stgulik - MIB crossover. A funny, enjoyable, well-written romp with great dialogue. I especially loved Lucius and Severus here.
Passion, Kindly Tempered by goddess47 - A Snarry fic yay~ This one was short and sweet. I admire authors who write dialogue well, so it's no wonder that I thoroughly enjoyed it. A sweet, understated story.
On The Mend by _hannelore - A gen fic about Severus and Minerva in the aftermath of the war, dealing with school politics. Did I mention that I love fics focused on the dynamics between Minerva and Severus?
How Severus Snape Became A Team Player by gun - Another Hogwarts faculty-type fic. This younger Severus is incredibly believable, and I enjoyed every bit of interaction between him and the other teachers in this fic.
Every Saint Is An Accident by teddyradiator - This fic manages to be both emotionally wrenching and kind of sexy at the same time, something I never would have thought was possible in a Petunia/Severus fic. This is Petunia's story, and it's a sad one, and even if you don't read the pairing you should give it a try, because it's one of the true gems of the fest.
