Things I liked, in alphabetical order, from the Secret Snarry Swap.
Auld Lang Syne by suitesamba. Harry and Severus’ developing relationship in the months after the Battle of Hogwarts, told through Minerva’s eyes. I love McGonagall, and this fic just had the right mood for me. It was short and sweet and really fun to read.
Castles of Sand by
amanitamuscaria. Harry tries to find a reason to live. This was my gift fic for the round, and there are so many things I liked about it I can't possibly list them all, especially without spoiling things a bit. It's a very unique post-epilogue fic in which Albus Severus aids in the eventual Snarry, which pleases me. I think it's a fic that many Snarry fans will really enjoy, so please do check it out! (Warning: mentions of past chan)
Closing Time by emilywaters76. Everyone knows what he used to be: a condemned criminal, who couldn’t handle the time in Azkaban and agreed to the memory-removal program to enable him to start a new life. For all intents and purposes, he’s a new man. Nobody seems to fault him for that. Except perhaps for one man named Potter. God, this fic. I don't think words can sufficiently explain how impressed I am by it. It's only 3,000 words, but manages to pack such a punch that it stayed with me for days afterwards. It's a short piece, so if you haven't read it yet, just go and read it, and then you can be incoherent about it too.
Learning the Language by accioslash. Severus may have known them to be true, but he has been waiting to hear these words for some time now. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to find out this belonged to a friend of mine. I'd forgotten about it for a while, but I remember telling Liz that it was one of the first fics in the exchange I really enjoyed. The language works here and it's super hot. One of the sexiest pieces in this exchange.
Marks by florahart. Harry's a computer science student, but he needs a writing credit to qualify for an internship. All the writing classes are full, so he ends up in Snape's lit class as a substitute. Snape is a hardass, but no one passes his class without learning to write, and it turns out they have something else in common. How can I not like lit-speak and Harry as a computer geek who talks about door variables? This fic was one of the last things (possibly the last?) to be posted, and it's really quite a delight. I found her Snape infinitely amusing in all his snarkiness.
Nobody's Savior by suitesamba. Albus Dumbledore is dead, Severus Snape is the leader of the Order of the Phoenix, Minerva is the spy inside the castle, and the war wages on. When the Boy Who Lived, who died in an accident before he was old enough to go to Hogwarts, is found going about his business in the Muggle World, everything changes - for the Order, for the Wizarding world and especially for Severus Snape. As Severus tries to discover why Albus hid Harry Potter, Harry Potter discovers magic, friends and a godfather, but nothing interests him more than Severus. A retelling of the final destruction of Voldemort, by the Boy Who Lived for quite a different reason. This fic was one of the ones that made me insanely jealous. It is really well-written and just so intricately plotty. I wish I could write plot and build worlds the way suitesamba does. She creates a world that is fully realized and draws the reader in. I wanted to know more and more about what this world was like.
