Black Maria Film Festival

On Monday at Kean at 7:40 in the art building room 112, there is going to be the 24th annual Black Maria Film Festival. I know that Chris, and Cori are going with me, hope some others will be able to join in the fun as well

what exactly is a black maria? im pretty sure ive heard it somewhere before...but you know me....i cant remember my own name half the time (thank goddess you guys do!)

Since 1981, the annual Black Maria Film and Video Festival, an international juried competition and award tour, has been fulfilling its mission to advocate, exhibit and reward cutting edge works from independent film and videomakers. The festival is known for its national public exhibition program, which features a variety of bold contemporary works drawn from the annual collection of 50 award winning films and videos.

The Festival's roots are in New Jersey, where just over 100 years ago the inventor Thomas Edison developed motion picture technology at his West Orange lab facilities. One of these laboratories was the Black Maria, the world's first motion picture studio.

nowwww i know why ive heard of it--- i totally knew the name of the first movie house Thomas Edison invented!

I knew it was the black maria, i just didnt associate the name with the film festival! big duh on my part!

whats cool is that my grandmother lives around the corner from the real "black maria"- it now is the Thomas Edison Museum....we should go sometime!
