Ya know, I've never been too much of a Bogart fan. He's in fantastic movies - great scripts, great cinematography, etc.. But he's so monotone and drab for me. So, had there been another actor I preferred in the roles his movies would probably be pure love for me but they rate at a B level instead of A. Except for this little known gem. I LOVE this movie.

It's suspenseful and witty. And Bogart's coldness works well in this suspenseful story. Plus I just love Gloria Grahame.

I was also thinking earlier about My Favorite Wife starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunne (1940). I'm not sure that most people realize how brilliant this film is. Take a concept such as: "Wife has been on a deserted island for 7 years and believed to be dead. She gets rescued and find her husband has just remarried." Doesn't that sound like it's just ripe for angst (think ahead to Castaway). Yet this movie is hilarious! I believe that comedy is probably THE hardest form of acting/film yet the most underappreciated. There's a fine line between being funny and stupid and the writers who can stay on the right side of that line are amazing. And can you imagine acting in a comedy - well enough to pull it off consistenly - especially when you're in a shitty mood. Comedy is hard. Give the people their props. And rent My Favorite Wife if you haven't seen it!
