may the grace of god be with you always in your heart

We picked out a (Unitarian) Universalist church to go to for Christmas Eve, something I'd never done before. My mom ran into her seasonal boss, and I ran into a former classmate I hadn't seen since middle school. I suspect that the small adorable child sitting next to Rachael was her small adorable child, because they seemed to have that kind of physical intimacy; I should have asked. The service was good, but unexceptional. I got hit with some of that stupid "this is not my home, why am I not at my home church" nostalgia which made finding a church in Philadelphia so difficult at the beginning; wish I could turn that off. There were candles and carols and snacks, and it was fairly meaningful.
ccommack seems to think it was maximally Christian, for a UU service; I know I've seen people get away with more (and admire them for it!).

There is a Christmas tree now. My sister has named this one George Clooney. I don't know why she does that. It is a large tree because they were out of small trees. They were also out of trees that were for sale, so it was free. I am not sure I endorse "buying" Christmas trees on Christmas Eve, but it does seem to work out sometimes.

We made arrangements to see my dad tomorrow. In unrelated news, I have been a ball of emotional stress all day. Very sensitive to blood sugar stuff, and minor slights, and frustration, and the fact that my sisters are better at music theory than I am. (Because, y'know, they studied it; I didn't.)

Last night I had a nice consultation with
sandmonkeywoman at a coffee shop in which we tried to plot her Kickstarter CD recording project. Now there are plans. When it's something more than plans, I'll let you know, probably incessantly, because I'm pretty excited about it. (Though if anyone feels right now that they're an expert on the topic of Kickstarter CD recording projects... tell me things?)

We're staying in a hotel downtown. The (<0.5 mile) walk from the church to the hotel, across the river, at night, was actually extremely lovely. And completely against all local culture. So there.
