Progress

Rather than spending my holiday perusing the internet until I'm ready to shoot myself in the face, I'm spending the time doing what I love - visiting with friends, practicing music, reading, writing, and math - while maintaining a comfortably neat home.

Today, I learned a third chord on ukulele, as well as two songs: "Happy Birthday" and "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." Not exactly newsworthy for most people, but I like to see my own progress. I've also gotten back into the habit I began earlier this year of going back through my flute method book to get my skills back up to where they once were. All of this has inspired me to learn "New Soul" by Yael Naim on the piano.

This is all inspired by my desire to live life more fully, to really live. I've been working toward a life of carpe diem for some time now, but I often allow stress, emotional issues, and the mundane details of life get in my way. As a result, I've been living a very half-assed existence most of the time. Normally, this is where I'd give myself an impossible list of new things to learn and tasks to complete, but that's not what I mean. All I actually need to do is fully engage in life, to put forth my full effort, rather than letting my talents and mind rot off to the side while I numb myself with compulsive television-watching and Wikipedia-clicking.

Life is an amazing adventure.
