It started after a short conversation they had in one of his shifts at the library.
Kaneki remembered they talked mostly about Takatsuki Sen and her books, especially the new one that had all the copies sold in less than a week.
It was pleasant; Shiro was pleasant, the calm, serious lad with hair as white as the clouds in sunny mornings.
To Kaneki, it was even more exciting to find someone with the same interests as him and better, willing to talk. He just didn’t expect to see stick notes on the last page of each book that Shiro returned to him.
The content, at first, was some excerpts from Takatsuki’s works that always managed to leave him with a smile that made Touka roll her eyes and call him a “stupid co-worker”, but soon, the messages evolved to something that Kaneki could only call as “small bits of conversation”.
Shiro usually left some comment about another book he wanted Kaneki to read or then compliments about Kaneki himself; how his hair looked bright that day, how his eyes were shining like stars, how his smiling was stunning…
It probably was just his imagination or maybe his hopes talking to loud, but Kaneki was starting to feel like Shiro liked him as much as he liked Shiro.
It could be madness or anything else, but every time Shiro entered the store, Kaneki felt his stomach churn with anticipation and his heart throb with hope, but even if he was misreading all the signals the other was showing, dream couldn’t hurt him, right?
