7. [Humour] Upon finding out about the -- the relationship (Phoenix didn't really know what else to call it) - Wolfina had decided that Phoenix was her "gay best friend" despite his protests to the commentary (yes, he was her best friend, but he wasn't -- I mean, he didn't really -- Hijikata was an exception, and he certainly wasn't going to start acting strangely!) and insisted upon dragging him out to do "gay best friend" things: namely, shopping. And of course, she was a lady, so she couldn't be expected to carry all the bags.... Why was he so easily talked into these things?
8. [Hurt/Comfort] Although Phoenix knew Hijikata's history, he didn't quite know what he had been through. It wasn't the same. Phoenix couldn't even imagine it. Sometimes, he wished there was more he could do than just be there when the former boatswain woke up from nightmares in the middle of the night. But hadn't Phoenix set out to be there for people who had no one else -- who were alone? To have no one on your side...that was a state Phoenix knew all too well. While he was certainly not the only one who was there for Hijikata (there was his brother and that talking cat, just to name a few), maybe just being there was enough to remind Hijikata that he was not alone.
9. [Smut] He still couldn't believe that Hiji -- that Toshirou let him do this. It was incredible to have someone that strong, that wild, that powerful, underneath him. That Hijikata Toshirou would hand him control....Phoenix couldn't betray that kind of trust, even if he wanted to. He didn't think he'd ever quite get used to this.
10. [UST] Phoenix took a deep breath and aimed the gun at the target.
"You're doing it all wrong," Hijikata interupted from right behind him, nearly making Phoenix jump. It was dumb luck that he didn't let go of the gun. "Hold it like this." He reached around to correct Phoenix's grip. "Your stance is terrible." Hijikata pulled Phoenix's shoulders back. "Move your feet out a little. ....no, not that much," he sighed. "Here. Do this." Hijikata took hold of Phoenix's gun-hand, and stood properly. Phoenix tried to imitate it. "Keep the gun pointed down-range," Hijikata instructed, a little too close. The smell of cigarette smoke was strong, but not choking like it used to be. Phoenix barely noticed it anymore. "Now, lift it up -- sight the target --" he moved with Phoenix, who was finding it difficult to give this exercise his full attention, which was a very bad thing considering he had a loaded firearm in his hand -- "and fire."
