Our downstairs lights tripped this morning. No big deal, we think, just go and flip the switch back up and see which bulb has gone this time. But no, the breaker won't go back. So we call an electrician and he can come that afternoon. Great! He'll know what to do and be able to fix our problem so we have lights again by this evening!
Ha.
After quite a bit of investigation he couldn't isolate the cause and said that he would need to lift the flooring upstairs to access the cables. He also said that a lot of the wiring was old and the coverings of some were disintegrating so the whole thing would probably need to be redone. Either way it's going to be difficult to do and cost a lot of money.
So we don't have downstairs lights. And probably won't for the foreseeable future. And if we're planning to move anyway then is there any point getting the place rewired since whoever buys it will probably be redoing everything anyway?
Fortunately the side passage is on a different circuit so we still have a light out there, which means I can see what I'm doing when I let Tormund out. (Speaking of Tormund, he was so good today. We shut him in the side passage while the electrician was here and he was so confused and unhappy about it. But he behaved so well and we gave him lots of treats and cuddles afterwards.)
Currently I have a plug in LED lamp next to me which gives some light but isn't great. We have four more due to arrive tomorrow which I plan to place strategically around the living room to try and make it as bright as possible. I hope it works cos we can't live in the dark like this for very long.
