if you haven't heard it, it's new to you

Dec 20, 2005 13:32

so lately, people all be like omg listen to the new blah blah blah.

frankly, i don't want to. unless its something new and different, ill pass for awhile. im still hung up on the older shit that i adore. so for your pleasure im gonna recommend some of my favorite cds. you've probably heard some of them. i don't give a shit.

and then, since no one actually buys cds without hearing it first, ill tell you which songs to download first so that you enjoy them too. pretty neat hey?

let's kick this shit:

the lawrence arms - apathy & exhaustion
This cd fucking rules. The lyrics are beyond most other punk bands. Trust me on this one, seriously. For fans of old alkaline trio and other bands with lyrics that actually are witty.

Favorite Songs:
"Your Gravest Words"
"The First Eviction Notice"
"Brickwall Views"

rx bandits - the resignation
If you like music in general, you will adore this cd. It has all the best elements of reggae and the edge of a punk band. The guitar solos and keyboard leads make the album excellent. The tinge of ska on this cd is more slight than Progress (another great cd) but well, ska is dead. When i see them live again, i will obsess over it in my LJ. go with me. i promise your mind will be blown

Favorite Songs:
"Descrescendo"
"Pal-Treaux"
"Falling Down the Mountain"

say anything - is a real boy
At first listen, this sounds like a buncha other pop punk. But this boy's got edge. The guitar is pretty complex stuff as well. Every song's like an anthem, so much so that I'll let you figure that out for yourself. if you like any sort of punk at all, get it.

Favorite Songs:
"The Writhing South"
"The Futile"
"Belt"

mars volta - deloused in the comatorium / frances the mute
I think I enjoy deloused more, but i can't really decide too well. either way, this band is fucking amazing. admittedly, it's a better experience in altered states, but it can be enjoyed either way, honestly. if you enjoy prog rock or metal or latin dance music or well.. frankly anything, just check this shit out.

Favorite Songs:
"Son et Lumiere" / "Inertiatic ESP" (you must listen to these 2 in a row in this order kthx.
"Drunkship of Lanterns"
"Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus" or "L'via L'viaquez" they're long so i figured i'd let you have one or the other. L'via is in spanish half the time, but even if you're some simple english speaking being, you'll probably enjoy it.

death cab for cutie - the photo album
This is their best cd, followed closely in my opinion by Transatlanticism. Your opinion may vary. Either way, this cd is fucking wonderful. If you have heard the postal service and haven't heard death cab, please educate yourself so that in case i ever found this fact out, i wouldn't publicly humiliate you and then call you names.

Favorite Songs:
"blacking out the friction"
"Why You'd Want to Live Here"
"Styrofoam Plates" - my favorite, but it's kinda slow so get the others first if it's not your thing

the decemberists - castaways & cutouts
To be honest with you, I couldn't decide which cd I enjoyed the most. So it's fair to say that if you like any of the songs i recommend you can check out Picaresque and Her Majesty.. as well. This music is good. A chilling voice set to somewhat folk-ish rock accompanied with accordion, violin, slide guitar, mandolin. Just a whole mess of everything. If you like any sort of corny jack johnson/john mayer crap or even dave matthews, and don't like the decemberists, you should probably end yourself soon because frankly... you just suck hard.

Favorite Songs:
"July, July"
"We Both Go Down Together"
"Eli the Barrow Boy"
"Los Angeles, I'm Yours"
and the song of the summer: "The Mariner's Revenge Song"

osker - idle will kill
This cd spent so much time in my cd player, it's unbelievable. Reminds me of when we went to see Amazing Transparent Man and it was cancelled and my cd player got all fucked up. Good times. Anyway, this cd is just absolutely great. Sort of reminds me of Lawrence arms, just edgy punk thats still got aspects of pop in it, so its intelligible and the lyrics are very good as well. Besides, if DANNY DUERST likes it, you've got to also!

Favorite Songs:
"Animal"
"Contention"
"Strangled"

A Wilhelm Scream - Ruiner
It's funny how all the bands Isa and I share common loves for make this list. That's because shes a musical genius. Anyway, this band is fucking rocking. Blistering guitars (always have wanted to say that) playing each other into misery. AMAZING live show, and really great guys in person. They'll probably be the next big thing. I've never wanted to say that. But trust me, sooooo good.

Favorite Songs:
"The King is Dead"
"Me VS. Morrissey in the Pretentiousness Contest (The Ladder Match)"
"Less Bright Eyes, More Deicide"

I'll probably do another post like this at another point in time. But yeah, check these bands out, I promise you won't be disappointed. Remember, just because I was in a band named SCREWOFF doesn't mean I'm as stupid as that sounded. Or something. I'd like to see you cover alkaline trio any better.

anyway - story of my life here (wow this is a long LJ)

did shitty on my geography exam, still got a B, thats good.

pretty much failed my calc exam, still will end up with probably a C, works for me.

heres my plans for the afternoon before the kegger tonight:

oh yes.

hey i almost forgot to whore out my friends.

EVERYONE MUST LISTEN TO THE SCARRING PARTY.

otherwise you'll be all jealous when they're the next big thing and you didn't listen to me.

ALSO: THE STAIRCASE DIARY we played shows with THE MIGHTY BLACK SOX in high school, and well, Tom does this now. and his voice can seduce you pretty well.

Everyone should leave me a comment on here, or IM me and let me know if you listen to either of these bands or download any of the aforementioned songs. I just want to see if this sort of thing actually works. It'd be much appreciated.
