Two pieces today. 8DD Aren't you lucky?
Title: Beginner's Luck
Author: Crys
Rating: G unless you have analyzed the subtext? 8DD
Characters (in order of appearance): Jade, Nephry, Peony, and Saphir
Pairing(s): None intended
Genre: General (lame DDx)
Spoilers?: Only if you are not familiar with the above characters
Summary: Jade was usually a hard rock to break. Not so today...
“No.”
“Please, Jade? Please. It’s snowing!”
“Nephry. It’s Keterburg. It always snows.”
The younger of the Balfour siblings tugged insistently on her brother’s gloved hand, the soft pink cashmere scarf wrapped around her neck loosening and falling on the floor of the manor hall. Not to be deterred, the little blonde girl set her mouth in a determined line.
“But it’s the first snow of the year! Come on, Peony says that he’ll take us sledding.”
Jade rolled his eyes. “Peony wants to take you sledding.”
“I’ll just ask Saphir to come instead, then.”
Jade’s mind teetered for a moment.
“…Fine.” The day his sister chose Saphir over him was the day he would jump off Mount Roneal.
Nephry grinned.
--
“No.”
“Aw, come on, Jade! You’ll like it! I promise!” Peony the Ninth, soon-to-be-exhalted-Emperor-of-Malkuth, was dressed in something that could only be described as…puffy. When Jade had asked nonchalantly why he was dressed like an over-fed rappig, Peony replied that there was no such thing. A plumper rappig simply meant more to love.
“No. I am not getting on that.” Jade crossed his arms.
“Please, Jade? Just once? Please? Please? PLEASE? PLEEEEEEEEEASE?”
“No.”
“Don’t make me beg.”
“I already did.”
“Get on it.” Peony said flatly, sticking one hand on his hip and pointing with the other. “Now.”
Jade’s mind teetered again.
“…Fine.” It wasn’t worth the effort to argue. Peony was as pig-headed as, well, a rappig.
Peony grinned.
--
“No.”
“But its fun!”
“I refuse.”
Saphir pouted, sticking out his lower lip. “Why not?”
Jade sighed. “Though I doubt anything could come of explaining it to you, this whole day has been completely inane. I could have spent the day productively by reading or researching the fifth fonon; instead, I’ve been dragged outside, made to sit on a sled, and now you want me to do what?”
Saphir stuck his tongue out at his best friend in reply, crossing his arms, and though Jade knew it was childish, knew he shouldn’t sink down to Saphir’s level, his mind teetered and he did the same.
Almost instantly, a snowflake fell on his tongue. Saphir gaped.
"I am going inside now."

Title: Selfish
Author: Crys
Rating: G (for the most part)
Characters (in order of appearance): Guy and Luke
Pairing(s): None intended
Genre: Angst. HOMG.
Spoilers?: Up to the second part of the Tower of Rem
Summary: Guy wondered who he was really talking to.
"Damn it! What the hell are you thinking?!"
"G-Guy! Hey--let me down!"
Luke could feel Guy's breath pulsing on his neck, hot and damp as he struggled to get his best friend to release the deathgrip he had on his collar. Guy was rarely angry, especially with him, but this time, Luke supposed he had the right to be. Everyone did.
"What makes you think," He continued, blue eyes flashing like, in the replica's mind, the sky right before it unleashed a torrent of thunder and wind, "that your death will mean anything, even if you do succeed?!"
"I...I'm doing this for you! All of you!" Luke retorted, trying to shove Guy's hands off him but to no avail, causing the gloved fingers to only tighten.
"That has to be the biggest lie you've ever told me, Luke fon Fabre." Luke had never heard Guy use his full name like that...and it scared him, for a moment, more than the prospect of dying.
"Wha...what?"
"What exactly do you think we'll do after you die?" His voice was quiet.
"Well, you'll live--"
"We'll live. Is that all? We'll live? Do you honestly think it could be that simple? What makes you think you have the right to tell us that we'll live? What would everyone think if they heard you talk like that?"
Luke was silent.
"What would Anise think? Do you think she'll ever forgive herself for what happened to Ion and what might happen to you? What about Jade? Why do you think he didn't want to tell you the truth? It's because he's your friend, Luke. Do you honestly believe he wanted to send you to your death?"
"Guy--"
"What about Natalia? What would she think, even after all that's happened between her and Asch...and Asch and you? Do you honestly believe that she could be happy this way? What about Tear? What about..."
...What about me?
Guy closed his eyes and bit his lip, releasing Luke from where he had been roughly shoved and pinned against the wall. Turning, he left the room without a sound, shutting the door noiselessly behind him.
For a long time, Luke stared at the spot where his best friend had been standing.
I...I'm sorry...Guy.
In the hallway, leaning with his back to the wall, Guy put a hand over his eyes and slowly allowed himself to slide down against it. "You bastard." He whispered. "You selfish, selfish bastard..."
