The curious incident of my missing Filipino paper

Apr 11, 2008 23:36

I went to school earlier to give some things to a friend and, while I was there, I decided to finally get my Filipino papers. I wasn't able to pick up those papers last time when our prof placed them in his pigeon hole on the Friday (or Thursday) of finals week, and, having no exams on that day, I didn't go to school.

I was glad with the results of our last Filipino paper - we got a really good grade! I even ran into Sir Yol, and he actually said that our paper was good! He even added that we should have it published in Matanglawin. Aww. :)

Okay. So now I have the final paper with me. But what is this missing paper in the title, you ask? We had a second paper - papel ng pagpapaliwanag, which is pretty much like a critical paper. You're supposed to explain something - anything - in pop culture (be it a book, TV show, personality, fad, or whatnot) and link it to a larger social context. Basically, you show a certain something as a symptom of a wider social phenomenon - something like that; sorry, words fail me right now. Two weeks ago, Jhenel told me that she couldn't find my paper in the pigeon hole. (Thanks, Jhenel, for trying to look for my paper for me!) She then thought that I must've picked up my paper already - when I hadn't. But then she said that perhaps she didn't look hard enough; my paper might've been buried amidst a pile of other papers. I thought that maybe I'd find it.

Surprise - I didn't find it. I looked and looked and even browsed through the papers one by one. It wasn't there!

Shame, I really wanted to know my grade for that paper. More importantly, I wanted to see Sir Yol's comments. And I liked that paper, too. I spent hours working on it - I used the airing of Fullmetal Alchemist on a local TV network to explain how local media propagates connotations of anime as "kids' stuff." :( I had fun doing that paper, and now it's nowhere to be found.

I have thought of possible reasons to explain the disappearance of my paper:
1. Someone must've accidentally brought it home, thinking it was his/hers. (But why hasn't he/she returned it? Will he/she return it, assuming he/she has classes this summer?)

2. Someone must've unintentionally dropped it to the ground while searching for his/her paper. Oh no; what if my paper is already in the garbage dump? :( (This is a bit improbable, though.)

3. It's with Sir Yol; he forgot to place it in his pigeonhole. (I hope this is the case. At least my paper is in safe hands. :D If I see Sir Yol again, I'll try to ask him about it.)

4. Someone took it. (Um, I don't want to sound accusatory here. I just thought of it as a possible reason. Sorry, I tend to think of silly things. I don't know why anyone would want to take my paper, though.)

5. It just...got lost, for some other reason.

If #s 1 or 4 happen to be the case, I'd like to appeal to the person who has my paper to please, please give my paper back to me. I really want to see it. Please? Even if you just leave it in Sir Yol's pigeonhole, I won't mind. I want to see my paper badly. I want to see what constructive criticism Sir Yol has left there. Return my paper, please. I do believe that I deserve to see my grade and the comments written on it. I wouldn't have minded if the paper wasn't really meant to be returned, just like the reflection paper I wrote in English 101. But in this case, the papers were meant to be returned, and everyone else either has received his/her paper or has his/her paper waiting for him/her in Sir Yol's pigeon hole. I feel a bit deprived about not seeing my paper, so I want it back.

If it wasn't in the pigeon hole for some other reason, well, I don't know what to say, other than sayang.
