Character Name: Zoisite
Series: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (anime)
Age: 17
From When?: After his death in the series

Inmate/Warden: Inmate -- Zoisite is a manipulative, petty little SOB and loyally served as one of the four Shitennou of the Dark Kingdom -- a group commanded chiefly by a demonic force that burst out of the Sun that was responsible for the destruction of an entire civilization in ancient times. In modern times, reborn, he pursued his goals single-mindedly and resorted even to betraying and killing his own allies to get what he wanted.

Abilities/Powers: - At full power, Zoisite was able to materialize crystals and shards and blades made of stone -- presumably made of the same stone he is named for and was able to mentally command them to come to his hand or hurl themselves at enemies. Both of these abilities will have been taken away.
- Another offensive ability he had was the power to create gale-level bursts of wind, capable of unfooting an opponant or at least stunning them. Occassionally these blasts are accompanied by a rain of cherry blossom petals, as well as an incantation -- typically he just barks the word "Zoi!" and it happens. Yeah. He's dainty like that. This power will no longer be available to him.
- Teleportation was another ability he appeared to have. He had a tendancy to appear and disappear surrounded by the aforementioned petals, which would vanish once he'd fully materialized or dematerialized. This power will no longer be available to him.
- The flower petals. It's clearly something he calls into being around himself when he does certain things because he likes to make "beautiful" entrances and exits. Since he can no longer teleport, that's kind of out. But I'd like to have him keep this completely useless power of his just so that in a panic he can throw flower petals at someone and run like Hell.
- He could lastly command his center of gravity, able to float in mid air, fall slowly, or jump incredibly high. This was especially apparent with him; none of the other Generals were denied this ability, but he used it exceptionally often, as it made him appear more graceful. This is an ability I'd like for him to keep. He'll be mostly indoors so there's not much he can do with it anyway, besides float there and mock you, and he can't go that high because there are ceilings everywhere. I look forward to him not looking before he leaps and bonking his head, repeatedly.
Personality: Zoisite is the youngest, most effeminate, and least mature of the Shitennou, and he is probably not going to make a lot of friends quickly if he doesn't have the good sense to be pleasant starting out. His youth shows, repeatedly, not because he's ignorant but because he resorts to childish tactics when he doesn't get his way. He stamps his feet. He whines. He wibbles if he thinks it will get the right person's attention. ...He also gets even. Zoisite turns vengeful at the most insignificant of trifles and goes to near comically crazy lengths to get back at someone, and he loves to gloat.

That being said, his youth isn't always a flaw. It makes him uncannily eager to please people he considers superior to himself, and while doing his job is one thing he holds high esteem for, it's proving himself worthy and equal (if not greater) among his peers that tends to be his chief concern. Having been placed in charge of locating the Silver Crystal, and eventually of collecting the seven rainbow crystals, he had tightly defined tasks to carry out and unlike his predecessors was often successful. So as conniving and immature as he can be, he still knows how to get things done and is a bit of a kissass.

In life, Zoisite was mentored by and shared a romantic partnership with Kunzite, the eldest of the four Shitennou. While their bond was understood and in no way kept secret, he did not tell Kunzite that he truly loved him until the moment of his death. The dynamic between the two of them brought out in Zoisite much of his desire to impress -- if he failed to do something or somehow served as a bad example, then he was not only disappointing the Dark Kingdom; he was disappointing Kunzite. Eventually he will start to behave on the Barge this way, as well -- resolving his behavior to what Kunzite would have found becoming.

The nature of his relationship also revealed him to be a very jealous person. Anyone who garnered a favorable comment from Kunzite tended to suffer for it in the end, where he would first mentally break down and rationalize their unworthiness and then go to lengths to prove it to them. One fo the seven rainbow crystal carriers was unfortunate enough to have been called "beautiful" by Kunzite, and this resulted in Zoisite making very certain that this person understood they were a hideous monster well before he turned her into one.

Despite how mostly effective his methods were, Zoisite is fairly high maitenence. He hates getting dirty or even being in inelegant places. He dresses and grooms himself impeccably, and he typically carries himself like every motion is rehearsed. He likes to give the impression of beauty, and woe be it to the poor soul that hits, scratches or otherwise harms his face, because his vanity will not stand for it. That having been said, if someone manages to throw him off his game (or if he gets hasty and does it himself), he gets so completely befuddled that he can't get his poise back no matter what he does, and he therefore must retreat, tail between legs, to lick his wounds in private. Generally soft-spoken and ingratiating, the minute it slips he shifts into a persona that is both impolite and downright shrill.
Path to Redemption: Really, Zoisite is hardly going to be terribly cooperative with anyone, as most will be considered beneath him. However, with a Warden determined not to take any of his crap (who with all hope won't be stupid enough to try humiliating him into submission) who also proves themselves to be concerned for his well-being, will likely earn his respect in the end. Slowly he will become more open to experiences on the Barge, and learning, and he will eventually understand that the sooner he impresses the Admiral the sooner he can be with Kunzite. This isn't to say that this will cure his deceptive and homicidal tendencies, but it's definitely the first step.

History: The Dark Kingdom began during the Silver Millenium, a time in distant history when two civilizations existed, that of the Earth, and that of the Moon. It rose to power when the "malignant, amorphous" demonic being, Queen Metaria, was born from the Sun. At a time when Prince Endymion of the Earth and Princess Serenity of the Moon were to be married, Metaria fed upon the sentiments of humans who opposed the union, among them Queen Beryl, who covetted Endymion's affections for herself, as well as Endymion's four most loyal generals, the Shitennou, one of whom was Zoisite. Unlike his character in the manga, however, he has no outward memory of his life before he sold his soul to Metaria.

New forces gathered, Metaria launched a war against the forces of the Moon and those on Earth still loyal to the prince and princess. Many lives were lost, including those of Endymion and the princess, and the princess' mother, Queen Serenity, used a talisman called the Silver Crystal to seal Metaria into the North Pole, along with her many forces. She was revived, though weak, by Queen Beryl, the Shitennou, and their minions when they reawakened in the 20th Century. Efforts to collect energy to rejuvenate her began in earnest, with Zoisite assigned chiefly to the task of locating and acquiring the Silver Crystal, whose power could fully resurrect Metaria and tip the scales against their enemies.

Of course, reincarnated warriors from the Moon, the Sailor Senshi, immediately rose in opposition to the efforts of the Dark Kingdom. The first Shitennou assigned to collect energy for Queen Metaria, Jaedite, failed numerous times to collect an acceptable amount of energy thanks to their interference, and he was encased in crystal by Queen Beryl, banished to "Eternal Sleep", as she called it, and it was up to the next oldest Shitennou, Nephrite, to take up the helm in his stead. Despite Zoisite having his own tasks to attend to, he was eager to take Nephrite's place from the very beginning.

Zoisite and Nephrite did not get along. Nephrite refused to take him seriously, and he, in turn, hated that he could be so openly mocked by a man who, like his predecessor, encountered repeated failures. Nephrite put on no airs when it came to his job; he did not go out of his way to impress Queen Beryl or even really behave politely towards her, and his manners (and the lack of recompence for them) offended Zoisite to no end. When Nephrite set his sights on locating the Silver Crystal as a way to make up for his failures, Zoisite was both enraged and panicked because he knew that as before, mistakes or no, Queen Beryl would allow the man to steal his job right out from under him -- hoping perhaps that desperation would be the best motivation. He sought comfort and guidance from his mentor and lover, Kunzite, who did not reproach his desire to remove Nephrite from the picture completely, but rather helped him to plot the general's demise.

When it became clear (to him anyway) that Nephrite had perfected a device that would allow him to locate the Silver Crystal, Zoisite sent a minion to track him and kill him for the crystal if he did find it. Nephrite, himself, had thought he succeeded, but the device he invented responded to a human girl's unrequited love for him instead. Her fierce protectiveness of him awakened his ability to return her affections, and he destroyed Zoisite's minion when it attacked her.

Determined to claim either the Silver Crystal or his device from Nephrite, Zoisite had more minions kidnap the girl and set a trap for him -- a trap he did not, in the end, survive, and Zoisite was only too happy to gloat over his mutilated, dying body as he stole his invention from him and fled the scene.

Queen Beryl took the device from Zoisite and altered it before turning it to him, informing him that the Silver Crystal had been broken into seven pieces when it imprisoned the Dark Kingdom's seven most powerful warriors. The seven were reborn as normal humans on Earth, with extraordinary gifts and talents, and in each of their bodies lay a crystal shard. The device had been changed to respond to these people, allowing Zoisite to rather effectively locate and collect each of them -- when the Sailor Senshi or their protector, Tuxedo Kamen, did not snatch them first.

A rivalry between Zoisite and Tuxedo Kamen came about, as it almost always seemed to come down to the two of them in battle when it became a question of who would take a piece of the crystal, while the Sailor Senshi battled the revived monsters before restoring them to humanity. Zoisite finally learned the true identity of Tuxedo Kamen when, after disguising himself as Sailor Moon to lure him out, he wounded and unmasked him. The arrival of another Sailor Senshi on the scene, however, led Queen Beryl to commanding him, and Kunzite, who had joined him in this mission, to return to base. There he was told that he would arrange to meet with Tuxedo Kamen, claim his crystals, and then bring him back to Queen Beryl alive.

Through trickery, Zoisite and Kunzite were able to together claim all seven crystals. However, after Tuxedo Kamen managed to cut Zoisite's face, he conveniently chose to forget Queen Beryl's demands to bring him back alive and attempted to kill him. Twice. First by trying to explode an elevator that he was in -- failed when Sailor Moon intervened, and second by using his powers to hurl a shard of rock in her direction, knowing well that Tuxedo Kamen would protect her and take the hit for her. Sailor Moon's grief caused her to remember herself as the reincarnation of Princess Serenity of the Moon Kingdom, thus leading the seven crystals to fuse together and reform the Silver Crystal.

Zoisite once again tried to attack her, and the mortally wounded Tuxedo Kamen, and was himself injured in the process when Sailor Moon used the crystal against him. Kunzite acted quickly, first transporting Tuxedo Kamen, revealed to have been the reincarnation of Prince Endymion, back to Queen Beryl, then escaping with Zoisite.

Despite Kunzite's attempts to convince Queen Beryl to hold him responsible for Zoisite's actions, the younger general was fatally wounded for his blatant act of disobedience. Queen Beryl left them alone after commanding Kunzite to "get rid of the garbage" and dispose of Zoisite's body. The couple shared one last moment together, and Zoisite asked Kunzite to grant his last wish and let him die beautifully. He summoned around them an illusion of springtime and flowers, and Zoisite said he was happy, and that he loved him, before finally perishing.

Sample RP: Zoisite sat upright, gloved hand shooting to his chest as though to cover some wound that was no longer there. Gloves? He sighed in frustration. How churlish of him, to have gone to sleep in his clothes! What would Lord Kunzite think? He could not berate himself for long. His body felt numb, as though it were fresh from a nightmare, with a cool sheen of sweat dotting his brow. He did not even have to register that he knew his surroundings. It was only proper to have woken seemingly from a nightmare in his own bed.

Tuxedo Kamen -- mocking him. Marking his face. The Silver Crystal in the hands of the enemy. Felling that smug little cretin -- but Queen Beryl's wrath! He shuddered remembering that image, now, and felt the pain of his chest tightening with childlike loneliness. Why had he not gone to bed with Lord Kunzite the night before? Why could he not remember? Perhaps he had fallen asleep somewhere and he was brought here. That would explain why he was still dressed.

All the same, he saw no merit in remaining alone, now. If that had all been a dream, then it meant that there were still crystals to collect, tasks to be finished. But for now, he wanted not to remember the visions he had woken from.

He rose and strode to the door, stopping just shy of it and wondering if he should change into nightclothes first. Lord Kunzite did not need to see him this way -- his uniform rumpled -- but he shook his head. Perhaps he would take the chance that he was still awake somewhere. If not, then he would change.

Zoisite opened the door, and he was two steps out into the hall before it registered in him that something was wrong, and he stopped, frozen in surreal shock.

All things at the North Pole base were strange and twisted compared to the houses and items of the modern human world -- as though some strange black coral risen from the earth had attempted to make of itself human things but could only manage some rough mockery of what it impersonated. A house was not wholly a house, merely a shroud that wanted very much to be a house. Zoisite had always told himself that it was bearable for Lord Kunzite, and that once Queen Metaria was whole again they could have finer things for themselves.

The hallway he stepped into, however, was a hallway, and not merely pretending to be one. The floor he stood upon was made of wood, intricately laid and carefully polished. The lamps were real lamps, the walls and doors all seemingly manmade things. This was not the North Pole base.

Shaking, he looked back into his bedroom, and framed like it was by this strangely human hallway, it looked all at once threatening, voidlike, but still beckoning him back to it as something familiar.

Where was this? Where was Lord Kunzite's house?

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see another door in the hallway creaking open, and determined to not look like some trembling waif, he dashed back into what he knew to be his room and slammed the door roughly behind him. He pressed his back into the surface, staring now and his quarters as though trying to find something in them that told him it was a lie, that this place was not his, but down to every miniscule detail, it was.

He stepped away from the door, looking at it. It still looked like his door, and despite what he had just seen every memory and sense told him that he would find Lord Kunzite's house waiting behind it. He opened it a crack, and when golden light filtered in he rapped it back into place again, grimacing.

Zoisite's jaw was trembling. He clamped a hand over it forcibly.

Perhaps I did not have a nightmare after all, he thought to himself, eyes stinging.

"Lord Kunzite?!"

Special Notes: I'm going to try an anime character >.> I know. But we'll see how it goes!
