Today, just like everyday, I walked my six year old son to school. Now back in Richardson this was a lovely way for us to start the morning. We'd leave early so that we could stroll at a slow pace, that way Xander could stop and pet the neighbors dog and pick flowers or clover as we go without Charles being tardy. Unfortunately this tradition has died.
Since we've moved to Greenville I've learned that no one respects the walk signal.
Now I'm a responsible person for the most part. I always wait for the signal to walk across. I look to make sure no one is trying to run the red light before I haul the kids across the street. Yet for some reason when the people here see a mother and her two young children crossing the street they suddenly get the urge to beat her across.
What is it about pedestrians that drivers hate so much?
Do we annoy you so much that a bloody-thirsty rage takes over you at the mere sight of us?
EVERY DAMN DAY some idiot from the turn lane waits until we're half way across and makes a mad dash to turn before we get to the curb.
Now I understand that it's legal to make a right on red but for gods sake would it kill you people to wait TEN SECONDS for us to cross?!
TEN SECONDS to make sure that you don't turn my baby into roadkill? I know your double bacon cheeseburger is far more important than the safety of my child but it's near impossible for me to swoop the entire stroller out of harms way in less than three seconds. Please don't honk and curse at me for this, because legally... I could have your ass arrested for what you just did.
So lets just try to get along people, I'll wait until the light and haul-ass across the road. You just give me the ten seconds to get across okay?
That is all I ask.
road rage.
