I'm not really saying that if you aren't an ordinarily observant person, that you are severely lacking in some way personality-wise. I'm just saying that if people were more observant there would be a lot of things in this world that could be avoided. For example, you could avoid large conflicts between countries, not hit that pedestrian who's out for an afternoon stroll, or maybe you'd be able to better read the atmosphere in side of a room--oh I don't know, like a political science conference maybe?
I'm not going to say what exactly made me think about this, but all I can say is that when I get a table to myself in the cafeteria with some food and my iPod playing, my mind starts going off in really weird tangents. I was sitting there on the stool and thinking that I really liked being able to read the subtle nuances of some personalities. It's a hobby of mine to just sit there and watch people, trying to determine what's going on in their minds or in their lives. It works better with people I actually know because then I've spent enough time with them to be able to pick up on their unique facial expressions...but it's a fun challenge with other people.
It really does come in handy in class, though. I like reading my professors' body language as they come in to class to see just how stressed they are or aren't. It gives me a good indication of just how fast we're going to be going today. The same thing for my TAs in conferences. Sometimes, they're way more moody than my professors and so being able to have a rough guess as to how they're feeling helps me to determine how I should act in conference...not that I usually do anything crazy.
I remember one time when I was at Queen's University for a week, I took this creative writing course and the teacher told us that a really good exercise for coming up with characters and such was to just sit down somewhere and watch the people move around you. I think that it's a really good idea (only if you don't get caught staring and such)and I remember doing it at a cafe. I had a lot of fun that day, actually.
Speaking of writing, NaNoWriMo is coming up in about a week. I'm still unsure as to whether or not I'm going to be using my original plot, or if I'm going to try and come up with a new one. I realize that it's a bad time to be changing my mind, but I still have a week so I'm going to be thinking about it some more. After all, it has to sustain me for the entire month of November and last about 50 000 words. It wouldn't be good if it died about two weeks in...I'd be very depressed if that were to happen.
In the more immediate future, I have two Halloween parties to attend next week. Both of them are cosplay themed so we're going to see just how well Mi-chan and I do. It's not our first time coslplaying (last year was kind of crappy though), but it is our first time doing it together as a team (I mean from the same anime/manga). I hope it all turns out well. I'm kind of nervous about the whole makeup thing because I can think of so many ways that could go wrong...but with our roomie helping out, it will probably go better than if I had been doing it on my own.
That's it for this Friday. I'm not at my usual seat in the computer lab this time because someone has taken it (I am currently sending mental glares at that person) and therefore I have no access to a window in which I can spy on a certain demon squirrel family. That's right. It's a family. I swear there are like five of them, and they all look alike.
I'm not crazy, I'm just unique.
