Go-nin no Hikari Rainbow: On Tensou Sentai Goseiger

May 04, 2012 03:48

Only I would write a Tensou Sentai Goseiger blog post, appreciation post in the dead of night (at 1 in the morning), just because I've been working and I have been inspired by their Gotcha Gosei Type 2 Remix all over again. My heart knows no bounds in loving Tensou Sentai Goseiger just because. /glares at Alata.

Anyway, whoever says Goseiger is lame, not good, and that Alata is one of the lamest red rangers around can turn away from this post or die (before me, please?) because I'm going to say a ton of good things about Goseiger here.

Okay, first off, this guy:

Yes, you know HIM, right?

Chiba Yudai, aka, Alata. (Get his Gosei name right just because). I might have to say, this is the first thing he's probably done in the entertainment business since joining it. You might have met him already in Ouran High School Host Club (such an adorkable Hananinozuka-senpai, this guy is) or perhaps it's in Shirato Osamu Jikenbo that you've met him in. If you've seen the stage play to Tumbling Volume 2, then you'd know him from there with ever eternal partner, Suda Masaki. Either way, he was ALATA, FIRST. Alata is GoseiRed from the Skyick tribe in the Tower of Heaven. I'm not sure how they call that in Nihongo.

Alata is, perhaps, one of the best reds I've ever seen. He's unconventional, a breath of fresh air from the serious reds like Shiba Takeru from Shinkenger. I went to Shinkenger once until I decided the only thing I was watching Shinkenger for was Aiba Hiroki. I didn't enjoy the show, at. all. /sorry, Aiba-bias. Why do I say he's unconventional? (Oh and screw people who compare him to Takeru just because Takeru is a samurai and he can slice and dice anything and that Alata merely shops for Goseiger's food and random needs) He's about the gentlest (and cutest) and kindest reds around. He doesn't have a depressing background except perhaps that he couldn't go back home, to the Tower of Heaven to be with the rest of the Skyick tribe people which is about the very same fate he shares with the rest of the four Gosei Angels he teams up with in the series. It's a background and a few traits befitting that of an angel *warrior/ranger*. But he does have his tough side, too. Have you ever seen his game face on? Childlike but...well, ferocious in his own way.

It's no secret he's my favorite GoseiTenshi and my favorite red ranger. I have an obsession going on recently. /sorry to those I Alata-spammed on both tumblr and LJ.

Goseiger has quite a good casting. This little guy, for example.

Who would have known Nakamura Sakuya, Nozomu in the series, is actually from Amuse? Yes, AMUSE. That talent agency with Fukuyama Masaharu, Perfume, One OK Rock and renowned actors like Sato Takeru, Miura Haruma, Kamiki Ryuunosuke and more. (And me being a part of that fandom, the Amuse fandom, should know these tiniest details, lulz, I am that Amuse-obsessed a fangirl.) Although quite young, he's a fine actor. He has his weakpoints from time to time but he's a really good Nozomu in the series. Plus cute pre-puberty boy is cute. ^^ (I want a cousin like him, I'm not cut out to be a parent to any child, him or some other anyway despite my age.)

And here's the rest of the team

If you recognize anyone, raise your hand and tell me. I'll start off. GoseiPink, Eri. She's a carefree, adorable pink ranger and Alata's childhood friend whom I apparently ship with him. I love Alata myself but lulz, Eri-Alata hints everywhere if you look into almost every episode of the series ever so closely. Hamao Kyousuke, fourth cast season 1 Tenimyu Kikumari Eiji and Takumi from the Takumi series as GoseiBlack, Agri. Ono Kento, Tenimyu Rikkai first cast's adorable mutt Yanagi Renji as GoseiBlue, Hyde. Then there's GoseiYellow, Moune. (I'm a girl and boycrazy, so apparently, all I know are the boys. Lulz.) A quick runthrough: Eri is Skyick (with Alata), Moune and Agri are from the Landick tribe, Hyde is the only one with them who's from the Seaick tribe. The Tower of Heaven's inhabitants are apparently divided into three different tribes so I'll go and come up with a fictional Flameic/Fireic tribe now for the sake of an Eri-Alata plotbunny in my head...I'm kidding. But seriously, I'll draft that down sometime.

All four have their own expertise and accompanying distinct characters or traits. Eri, being Skyick, is the carefree queen. Moune, as seen in episode 9 is a childlike, control freak. Agri...has his incredible strength. Both Agri and Moune, as Landicks, are fond of training so you could easily say they are the kind to excel in sports when in school or some other. Hyde is the cooler GoseiBlue---smart, he researches on things. He calculates as typical of brainiacs. On their Gosei-alter-egos, GoseiPink and GoseiRed have about the same cards/abilities that are wind based being from the Skyick tribe. GoseiBlue is water-based in terms of attacks. GoseiBlack and GoseiYellow get power from the earth---plants, rocks, the soil, you name it, they have it. As the series progresses, one can see them grow from being their inexperienced selves to a more experienced, wider self they sport by the end of the series.

As for their weapons and their mechas, I'll leave that to your perusing in case this review arouses your interest in Gosei. One thing to note, their primary equipment is the Gosei Tensouder (pictured below) and the Gosei cards (like the one Nozomu is holding in the previous screen cap).

Let's get to the good and amusing stuff. One thing I really like about Tensou Sentai Goseiger is how lighthearted every episode is made out to be. It's not that complicated to digest, at all. The premises around every episode is pretty easy to understand. There are four arcs to the series, Warstars arc, Yuumajin arc, Matorintis arc and Buredoran/Burajira's arc. The Warstars arc is pretty much like the denizens of Earth going against alien invaders, Earth vs. Space. The Yuumajin arc is basically the Earth against those that dirty or pollute it. It's a highly environment friendly arc, befitting of telling people today what the Earth really needs. The Matorintis arc is the Earth inhabitants, humans vs. machines as the Matorintis is a pretty advanced civilization of so long ago---think, the long lost Atlantis. The Burajira arc is...Gosei tenshi vs. Gosei tenshi. I think you get the picture now. Buredoran is the slyest villain I've seen yet. Let's see with Gokaiger's Basco. XD I'm in the middle of Gokaiger watching, too, anyway.

There are fun episodes, and then there are those that are pretty serious like that episode on Hyde's background. He had a partner who happened to be GoseiGreen, Magis. It's a pretty sad yet in the end, uplifting story I won't go into it so you'll have to see that for yourself. Fun episodes...my other favorite thing about Goseiger

Well, there's the whole of Epic 9...

Almost all of Epic 9 anyway. /pets Alata who's being dragged around to ice cream by the two girls.

In the previous episode...

In Epic 8, we establish the fact that Alata CANNOT draw.

And yes, Nozomu, Alata also wouldn't ask for a crew cut. Ever. That mop of hair is too cute and shiny and soft to get rid of.

There are a few more fun episodes that follow but this has to be my favorite, a Hyde episode, Epic 21 if I'm not mistaken.

Boys' love, who doesn't want it? It's a love triangle, too. Or it's just a sweltering fight with bibis and that water-based yuumajin who seeks hell by overheating human bodies with his sparks in the summer sun.

And of course, Alata and Agri's failed attempts at cooling Hyde off and Hyde's failed attempts to cool himself off. I love this Epic. Who doesn't?! There're Alata-Eri hints here, too. See the right gif.

There's more but I think I'll stop here. For now. I'll probably do an Alata appreciation post, Alata-Eri post next time. When I can gather the strength to because I might just forget all about it what with work and all.

One of the technical things I like about Goseiger? The ending music and dance. It's cute, it's catchy---both dance and song---it fits the whole series plus it makes me want to have the tensou mics they sing into. Another, the jackets. I don't want to wear the Landick jacket because it'd say "dick" on my back and...you know what would happen but I would love to have the Skyick jacket. Alata's because I can't stand pink unless it's on a good dress or shorts or something and it's in a decent shade of pink and I love the color red more than I do the pink color.

I'll add more in time. Either it's time for me to take another short nap at almost 4 in the morning or I am going to continue working as I have tons of things to do today. This is enough Goseiger appreciation post for the early morning/dawn.
