KR Den-O bits (OST-related)

Nov 07, 2011 02:23

I'm currently on a Den-O kick since unearthing my music stash from said addicting Kamen Rider show, KR Den-O. I'm supposed to be working and even putting out 11 Nin mo Iru!'s review for the second episode but I'm wasting time away with KR Den-O music anyway. Ah, my love for KR Den-O has not yet faded even after two to three years now since it's airing date.

What to say about Kamen Rider Den-O's OST? There's so much, I don't know where to start.

Kamen Rider Den-O is a fusion of the hard work that seiyuus (voice actors) gave to give life to the imajins, the young actors' hard work at portraying their characters and of course, the suit actors' efforts to bring even more life to the imajins. Den-O is even more intricate than your average Kamen Rider series which is why this has held me captive for so long now.

When it comes to animes, the best songs are frequently the character songs sung by the seiyuus themselves. It works the same with Den-O because each imajin has its own seiyuu. What makes Den-O character songs different from anime character songs is that the characters, Ryotaro, Kotaro and Sakurai Yuto's singing voices tamed to fit every theme there is. If you get what I mean, anyway. I never once flailed over Den-O's themes so I'm flailing at the moment. This was a post pre-determined a long time ago, I suppose. So let's go to my favorite character themes, eh? They're not just character themes, they're used for the transformation sequence, too. :) If you didn't know that yet.

Double Action~Wing Form (Shinichiro Miki [imajin Sieg] + Ryotaro)
Because this is just surreal, it's become a favorite. It's received more plays among my Den-O stash, alarmingly exceeding even that of the plays that Ryutaros+Ryotaro's character song has received. And I'm a self-professed Suzumura Kenichi fangirl. Why do I like Wing Form? Basically because Miki's voice actually fits well with Ryotaro's here. The music reminds me of something that's much like what you hear in places like India. It's just mystical. All those strings in the background are just LOVE. It's that song that fit the princely royalty that is Sieg!Ryotaro. His transformation sequence happens to be my favorite, too and the way he fights is just <3

Double Action~Strike Form (Ono Daisuke [imajin Teddy] + Kotaro [Sakurada Dori])
This one takes second or ties with the first because I have a bias on Dori since his Tenimyu days. There are times when I listen to Tenimyu's best character songs as much as I can just to get back to sanity, somehow. Dori is, no doubt one amazing singer. It's definitely Uverworld-y rock (you got your wish to be as amazing as Uverworld, Dori~~) because it just rocks. I first heard this in the ending credits for the Chou Den-O Blue movie and I've been hooked since. Not so much on the music but on the singing. Ono Daisuke + Kotaro = Divine Singing Voices. Now, bow to the singing KR lords. XD Nufufufufufu... Apparently they are singing gods of KR because they even have solo edits of the song. Oh dear, stop you, my pitter-pattering fangirl heart. Dori's solo edit gives that. T_______________T I'm reduced to nothing but a Dori fangirl. My weakness apparently are guys who can sing. XD Dori is a guy and Dori can sing. You get my point. Sakurada Dori + Ono Daisuke is, as I mentioned earlier, just flat out awesome, EPIC. You're missing half of your life if you are putting Den-O's character themes/transformation music in the backburner when you're watching Den-O. Den-O people did not do wrong by casting these two as Chou Den-O and Teddy.

Double Action~Gun Form (Suzumura Kenichi [imajin Ryutaros] + Ryotaro)
It's hiphop. It's modern. It's Gun form in the flesh! Rather...in sound. I'm not sure if that came out right either. But this song just personifies Ryutaros' carefree, playful, gun-wielding character. Listening to this closely once again, I think Sato Takeru x Suzumura Kenichi is an even better match in singing and rapping than Sato Takeru x Shinichiro Miki. Listening to this makes you recall Ryutaros' and Ryutaros!Ryotaro's dances in the Den-O series which were equally awesome. There was a reason why I loved Den-O and it's this :3 It displayed full well Take-chama's amazing break dancing. Now I just miss his break dancing. I don't mind seeing it again even when it's impromptu. I love it just as much as I love Perfume-songs-dancing-Takeru XD.

Double Action~Rod Form (Koji Yusa [imajin Urataros] + Ryotaro)
This reminds me so painfully much of the sea and the fishermen that fish in it. About all I can say about this. Of course, I love Koji Yusa's vocals. It's just as lovely as that of Suzumura Kenichi's. I admittedly hate the beginning but the singing dispels the hate you might form upon hearing the first few beats of the song. Koji Yusa, you just become my favorite singing seiyuu after Suzumura Kenichi <3 These two, Suzumura Kenichi and Koji Yusa are cute, too, when they emceed at the Kamen Rider Den-O stage show with the suit actors and of course, Sato Takeru and Nakamura Yuichi.

Double Action (Toshihiko Seki [imajin Momotaros] + Ryotaro)
Ah...this places last. I'm not sure why, I'm not even going to add in Axe Form because it's that which I do not really get---but all I can say
about Double Action~Axe Form is that it's Enka-ish, at best. Not one of my favorites in Japanese music despite the rich Japanese history packed in that kind of music but let's go back to the original Double Action which is Momotaros + Ryotaro. I had a bias for Toshihiko Seki once. He voiced Sanzo from Saiyuki. Weib Kreuz (Shinichiro Miki, hello Youji-san~~~ he never fails to be princely, NEVER) along with Saiyuki were my happy pills back in my high school days. The stories and bishounen characters were just as enthralling then as their character themes---special mention to Toshihiko Seki (Sanzo), Shinichiro Miki (Weib Kreuz' Youji) and Soichiro Hoshi (Goku from Saiyuki), I never heard Ishida Akira sing, tbh and Hakkai was originally my bias in Saiyuki before Sanzo/Konzen replaced him. If you want amazing anime with equally amazing songs, I can only recommend these two plus Ouran :D. Back to Double Action after that long-ish adlib on my history with seiyuu-love when I was in my HS and late grade school years...ah, Toshihiko Seki never fails to deliver when it comes to singing. I never thought he would be that dorky in RL when I watched him in the Kamen Rider Den-O's road/stage show which were emceed by Yusa and Kenichi. I always had this Saiyuki!Sanzo-image on him but he's still one of the best seiyuus I've come across with even before Miyano Mamoru et. al. came along.

It doesn't help that earlier, at the ship to Dumaguete today and while lying in my lower bunk bed trying to get a bit of sleep, I came across AAA's Climax Jump single. Climax Jump instrumentals along with the main theme for SPEC is my go to when I want to relax, somehow. I guess this is what sparked the idea to put up this post.

I'm currently on a listening spree on Den-O's Double Action themes. Amazing they are, amazing. <3 I don't think I'll ever get any sleep tonight.
