I don’t really know how to start this post. My intentions are always so good, follow-through sometimes isn’t. This post will focus on my good intentions. I have done lots of planning and processing in my head in preparation for the next 8 months. I’m preparing for lots of training, lots of sleep and lots of eating. I think I have created a pretty good plan and schedule.
Calendars are super important to me. I’m talking about physical calendars. We have a calendar on the fridge that we literally look at many times a day. Does Josh have hockey? Let me check the calendar! When is garbage day? Look at the calendar! Electronic calendars just aren’t as good, no matter what anyone says. It gives perspective - you can see all of the days in one spot and you can look ahead and behind easily.
My little trick for calendars on the fridge is having flat magnets on the bottom back page. It works like a charm.
Next is my training calendar, which I have put ABOVE our household calendar. Yes, it covers the pretty picture, but it’s kind of pretty in its own way and is a pretty big kick in the ass. Of course, the actual workouts aren’t there, they are in a binder, which will be with me at all times for the next 8 months. “Am I available for July 9th to do [something]? Let me check my training binder.” I have it printed out with the monthly calendar and weekly workouts. My binder is pretty bad-ass. I’ll post about that in the future.

My pride and joy - my calendars!
As I said, my intentions are good and my planning is great. So how am I going to ensure I’m DOING it? Good question, Crystal. One is to keep to my expectations realistic. If I have a heavy work week I’ll need to reduce some workouts. I’ll go to the 80% rule… do the workout, even if it’s only 80% of the workout.
Another way to keep myself accountable is this blog - I’m making myself write in it once a week, posting on Mondays. I have the posts scheduled so if I don’t write in it, it’ll be super embarrassing because there will literally be a post with nothing in it.
The internet is a great thing and Facebook, while a time-sucking drain on me, can be so useful. There is a great group of people training for Ironman Coeur d’Alene 2017. So the support is there. I just have to use it.
Lastly, the most important part of this whole plan is to have supportive people in my life. I’m very lucky to have an amazing partner who is supportive and excited about this whole endeavour. It’ll be a wonderful journey. He’s even started to run with me!
On the training front, I started the year and the training program off with a run-bike brick and it was really great. I actually had FUN! It felt so amazing to feel like I was having fun.
TODAY I HAD FUN ON THE BIKE TRAINER!
Seriously, this is a big freaking deal. I never thought I would feel like this… it’s pretty sweet. It gives me hope for the upcoming training season.
