As I was planning my week last night, I thought I would try out a bike ride today to see how my body is doing. However, this nagging cough has made me rethink it. I did some yoga this morning and have been cleaning and exerting myself in non-cardio ways. The cough is from my chest and I really want it to go away. I’m going to wait to see how it feels tomorrow. If it’s not bad in the morning I’m going to go for a brisk walk to test it out.
Everyone has their own home remedies for getting over a cold or ailment of any sort. Thanks to social media, you can find out what those remedies are! These suggestions included oil of oregano, vitamin c, echinacea, garlic, vitamin d, licorice root, and thyme. My personal regimen includes copious amounts of vitamin c in the form of effervescent tablets because they taste good and encourage me to drink more water. Seriously, I love this stuff! I’ve also been resting a lot. Like, a lot a lot. I even took a sick day from work. This cold kicked my butt. I think I sneezed a million times in a few days. I also drink echinacea even though it tastes disgusting. The hardest thing for me is to eat nutritious food. When I’m sick I obviously have less energy, which translates into being less than motivated to cook or make food. I did not too bad, but I ate a lot of cereal, apples, and toast with peanut butter and bananas. Smoothies would have been better, but I wasn’t thinking clearly.
Anyway, I’m recovering and hoping that I can get back to training right away. I’m supposed to be peaking right now. Well, I guess I peaked the last 2 weeks and hopefully that’s enough to pull me through the half Ironman less than 3 weeks away!
