Vacation

Yesterday we returned from Florida.

Lots of firsts for me. First time flying, first time at EPCOT, first time using a travel agent, first time taking more than 6 days off from work in a row. The trip was full of goods and full of bads, so I'll just jump right in.

First flight- To sum it up, I'm not a huge fan. Take-off is horrible and if I could never, ever do it again, I'd be happy. Once we were at cruising altitude it was fine. Turbulence I can deal with, it just feels like road bumps. It's the sudden drops in altitude that occur from time to time when you're experiencing turbulence that made me a nervous wreck. Landing, I LOVE. Not just because it'll soon be over, but because I liked the feeling of it and I loved watching as the land got closer and closer. (I got a window seat both there and back.)

The flight down there was okay. I was nervous as I didn't know what to expect, but my lovely cousin provided me with Xanax and I was pretty chill. I didn't like takeoff, and I was still nervous despite the meds, but then I was all right and I really liked landing. I even got brave enough to get up and make a trip to the bathroom. (Which was YUCKY! I do not recommend airplane bathrooms! Not in economy class, anyway.)

The flight back...oh man. If I'd had that flight going down to Florida, I don't think I would have been able to come home by plane. First, once we boarded we were told there was a problem with the hydraulic pump so a mechanic had to come fix it. That set me on edge. Then, when we were taxiing there was a horrible grinding noise that no one could explain to me. There were thunderstorms all around us, so takeoff was bad and turbulent with the plane dropping altitude quickly several times. Once we hit cruising height, it was so turbulent at 32k feet that the pilot had to drop us down pretty quickly to 28k feet.

At 28k feet it was still turbulent, but a little better. Every time I calmed and tried to relax, the turbulence started again. I'll admit it, at this point I was crying, but I think this was a combination of being exhausted from the vacation (we didn't sleep much), being a new flyer anyway, and the turbulence being so bad. My cousin who has flown over 30 times said that plane ride was the worst turbulence she'd ever experienced. I'd taken two Xanax before the flight but I was so nervous and agitated that my aunt gave me a third, higher milligram one, so I took 3 total. By mid-flight I was very lethargic, but I still couldn't sleep, I was too nervous. All I did was VERY slowly play Angry Birds on my phone and occasionally eat a mini-pretzel.

Landing in Boston at night was cool with all the lights and I just kind of stared out the window at it until we landed. When we disembarked, I just kind of followed everyone else around because I was wrecked from the Xanax. I don't remember too much of last night except my Mom picked us up and made us bad-ass cheeseburgers when we got home. She also had bought us a lot of groceries for when we got home since we had cleaned the fridge out before we left so nothing would go bad. It was very awesome of her.

Hmm, this has already gotten pretty long. I guess I'll get into the trip later. I'll also have some pictures to post, too. :-)
