'bout damn time...

So the company I am contracted with purchased a new assembly machine. They asked for our opinions on what could be improved over the machine it will be replacing. We sat down to do some brainstorming and came up with some design/function ideas. Most of them were accepted and implemented into the design. This was Spring of '08. The new assembly machine was supposed be delivered on 18 November, 2008... Have you looked at the date of this entry? Well, the entry is a few days late, but we finally took ownership of the unit this past Saturday. So on Saturday we removed the old assembly machine and we were none too careful with it. Why? Well, it seems the old unit is being shipped to Malaysia to be put back into service. I completely understand that we have entered a "Global Economy"; however, I am not for shipping equipment overseas for what I call "In House Competition". I don't mind competing with another plant in America for business, even if it is the same overall company. But when the company decides they are going to build overseas so they can fatten investors wallets, I take issue. Needless to say, I will not be accepting the "Opportunity" to install the old unit in Malaysia.

Anyway, we got the new unit installed and started with the test runs. There have been a few hiccups (like say a hydraulic line being only finger tight), but overall I'm fairly happy with the performance of the new unit. However, time will tell...
