Stephen vs. the dinosaurs: an epic tale of scientific discovery

Apr 21, 2007 11:17

Stephen set out from his hut early on Friday morning, dressed in modern clothes - his own clothes were growing threadbare, and were not so sturdy as they once were - with a pack containing provisions, his dinosaur textbook, and ammunition slung over his shoulder. He had his notebook in one pocket and his new pistol in the other, and was very much ( Read more... )

House looked up and saw Stephen come into the clinic covered in blood, and then looked down at his Led Zeppelin tshirt. He sighed. "Oh, great."

He pulled himself to his feet. "For god's sake, sit down. What did you do to yourself?"

Stephen was feeling faint from pain and loss of blood, despite the tourniquet, and was vastly relieved to see Dr. House in the clinic; having seen House's abilities during the dinosaur rampage, he would not have any other doctor treat him, and had feared he might have to set and suture his arm himself.

"I have been engaging in scientific investigation, and one of my subjects took umbrage at the fact," he said, pulling off his bloody shirt with some difficulty and removing the tourniquet. "I should be greatly obliged for some assistance."

"Scientific investigation."

House almost asked if Stephen had fucked Riddick's girlfriend, but it was a joke that would probably be lost by now.

"Well I hope you at least learned something," he said, limping over with a bag for Stephen to toss the bloodstained clothes into.

"I learned a great deal; no scientist previously has observed dinosaurs alive and in their native habitat, and as such I was able to make many remarkable observations - for instance, that as some naturalists have conjectured, many of the smaller species are feathered, giving support to the notion that birds are their direct descendants. The beast which attacked me was entirely new to me; it was not in the book which I brought with me; I believe it to be a tyrannosaurid, though it was quite small, hardly more than a yard high at the shoulder, and with the most remarkable crest on its head."

Despite being in pain, Stephen was capable of chattering on for quite some time when it came to his scientific passions.
