It's been about a month since my last update so I guess I should write something. Judging from my friends page, you guys are equally busy.
Work's been hectic; I was posted outstation on my 2nd week on the job - was totally blur, but the company was great, and it was very much a no-seniority, informal kinda environment with those guys. And best of all, I got to wear jeans that week. A memorable thing that my senior told me was "You either get screwed by the client or you get screwed in the office by your boss. Better to get screwed by client." Totally true. This profession is where ppl are hated and feared. I've seen the extreme ends of the spectrum; from uncooperative ones to the ones who are so pissing scared of you. I've grown to realise that it's not just about technical expertise, but a lot about people management. It's also a lot about flexibility and getting along with ppl from totally different backgrounds and trying to blend in. It's tough, especially with the constantly changing environment. Not just the promise of 4 years of hard work and hard studying, but also the social aspect of it. My biggest challenge in my first week was just remembering all the different names and faces. Moving around so much, it gets pretty tough trying to remember ppl's names. Another thing I found distracting in office (though I haven't been in much) was the paging system. Yes, we have a paging system. On my first day, I was so scared of missing my name being paged that I spent the entire day listening hard to the paging system. Which is a little distracting when you're trying to get work done.
Juggling work and study at the same time is quite challenging. We covered a 2inch manual in 3.5 days of lectures. The days are long, then you top off the weekend with classes the whole day. Exams in December. Eeks. Then peak period kicks in with the ushering of the New Year. I do hope I get more outstation jobs, though. They can be quite fun, although they're tiring. It feels like we're on a holiday.. we were actually on top of the silo with the clipboard, having a photo taken. LOL.
Welcome to adulthood.
