Writer's Block: Where Names Come From

Aug 02, 2008 09:43

A long time ago, when the internet was young and consisted mostly of super-expensive ISPs and super-expensive call charges, I joined IRC for the first time.  I needed a username and Jo (my real name) had already been taken.  At the time, I was a huge Marilyn Manson fan.  Antichrist Superstar had just been released and I loved the song Cryptorchid.  I thought it would make a good username, but when I tried to register it, it had also already been taken.  So, I did the next best thing and made a portmanteau out of the two and came up with CryptJo.

I just looked up a discography for MM and see that Antichrist Superstar was released in 1996, so that's roughly how long I've been using this name.  Latterly, I've used Munky or JoJo Munky a lot, but for the majority of websites, I'm CryptJo.

I really hate the name.  LOL
