Well.. this weekend.. has been unusually eventful.
Friday night the opening night. I haven't attended many movies during opening night partially because of the crowds.. but the hype surrounding this movie was just too good to let a opportunity slip through my fingers. So we bought the tickets and headed into the theaters 20 mins. before it started.
After seeing the horrible mind numbingly terrible movie "Open Water" a few weeks ago I've pondered if I should just forgo seeing movies in the theaters and wasting money like that. I really started to ponder if Horror films had lost their touch.. and I was hoping that "The Grudge" would give me some renewed faith in the productivity of directors and the quality of their so called "horror" movies and it didn't disappoint me
The Grudge takes place in Japan and focuses on Sarah Michelle Gellar who is a Elderly care worker that takes over a haunted house that one of her co-workers went missing on. but.. im getting far ahead of myself.
The movie starts with quite a interesting note which I wouldn't want to spoil for anyone.. and moves onto a shot of the house where a co-worker of the firm that Sarah Michelle works at, it shows abit of her attending to the elderly women of the house and also shows how she meets her demise at the hands of one of the evil spirits that roam the house.. the spirit being the female of the bunch that resembles the girl from "The Ring" and as I stated One of THREE (there are 3 evil spirits including a Cat and a young boy)
Now.. I don't enjoy ruining movies so i'm not gonna go into details any farther.. but "The Grudge" is a frightfully fun and sometimes outright scared shit less movies that the horror genre has been missing for a few months now.. unfortunately.. the movie (to me anyway) is like a ball of fire.. all of its really good spots (in this instance.. frightful, glued to the edge of your seat moments) are used in the first 3/4's of the movie.. and well.. one can only be scared so many times using the same tactic (which can be best described as Shock and Awe, as in you usually never see it coming) and at the end.. well.. its just not that scary anymore
but.. all in all The Grudge is a goddamn good movie and worth seeing
