[ well, this is unorthodox, to say the least. but dai's congenial smile more than translates across, even on an audio feed. ]
How nice to see someone so lively in our ranks. Allow me to welcome you. I apologise for the state of things, but we're currently undergoing a sort of 'renovation'.
[ ... sort of. ]
To satisfy your curiosity, I'm sorry to say that I've seen no specific Rose... apart from you, it seems. All that red.
As for that crow... perhaps it's time to consider a name. You all need means to survive. That one would, more than likely, be yours.
[You get voice because Dave is frustrated by this point. He sounds deadpan with a texan accent but, teenager young.]
Your welcome committee has his head planted somewhere, dude.
Rose types in purple usually, and has this long prosey way of saying damn near anything.
[There's a caw and a thwack which is followed by a curse from Dave.]
Okay, I'll bite but why is it here? I survive just fine on my own. And where is here anyways? This isn't where I was before and I'm starting to think this is nowhere I've ever been before.
[ dai's response is saintly-patient and prompt. he's getting used to this whole thing, by now, although one can never be completely sure of what one's getting.
dave seems pleasant enough. ]
Ah - you're in a city called Nuadoria, which is no part of your world. You've been taken through a rift by the ruling forces of this city in order to... fulfil a purpose, maybe. I don't entirely understand it myself, I'm afraid, but I'm sure it has plenty to do with fate and prosperity. It's that sort of exerted influence, you know?
Matters of protection are rather more different here than they would be in your world, if experience is any indicator - which gives the crow some purpose in regulating that transition. I apologise for the inconvenience.
- Regarding your friend, I'm afraid that no such person has stopped by, just yet. But I will certainly keep my eyes peeled. Would that be the sister in question?
[He takes everything he's hearing and frowns at it. Right. When he'd been doing exactly what Rose had been against he'd been pulled somewhere else.]
It shouldn't be, Earth was obliterated a few days back. [A rift caused by them? He wonders as he sighs.] Let me take a wild guess and say rebuilding. Or finding out what happened here. ...any weird ruins around? And I don't mean the city.
Figures. [He pauses, looking at the screen a bit harder.] Yeah. That would be her. Rose Lalonde.
Voice >> Video.redeifySeptember 11 2011, 17:44:05 UTC
I've no knowledge of such a girl, I fear. I could ask the other Magisters if you like, but I have a feeling they wouldn't tell me, even if they did know. They're notorious for withholding information.
[ he laughs. ] ... You ought not to say such things so casually, you know. The city's feelings may be hurt, being called something like a 'ruin'. But you aren't wrong. Rebuilding is a factor, but I suspect your role will be a more nebulous, lateral sort of thing. We're very fond of the jacks-of-all-trades.
... And survivor types.
Ah - but I'm being rude. Before we go on.
[ a little fiddling, and on comes the screen. dai sits there in full regalia, sitting in what looks like a cluttered, thoroughly neglected cathedral, its relics mingling with boulders and windows greyed from sheer volumes of dust. he seems to be alone. ]
I'm Dai - a native of Nuadoria. If I may ask your name?
Yeah sure, if you could do that, it would be great. Even if it's a we won't tell you, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Wait, is the city alive? Should I be worried I'm going to become a side order of fries with its tasty burger?
[Dave while slightly above average height for a kid his age, looks calmly into the device screen. His expression is flat despite the purple clothes on his body and symbol of the moon on his chest. That will be switched out soon enough. The crow is perched on his shoulder by now, peering down with keen interest.]
You got the right knight for the job then, jack-of-all-trades is what Striders do best.
[He taps the broken half sword against his thigh and nods once.]
Dave Strider, survivor of Earth. How long has the city been like this?
Video. I'm sorry for the wait!redeifySeptember 16 2011, 19:35:15 UTC
A pleasure, Mister Strider.
[ he mulls over dave's questions for a bit, dragging his white fingernails along his jaw. ]
Oh, the city has been like this for... 'long enough', might be the most accurate descriptor. Our time has been bent and broken and rebuilt since all of you started arriving here, through one thing or another. But to contract an otherwise tediously long tale to its most important points, some of us magisters decided all the corruption in our once-elegant city wasn't worth it, and we took some radical action. Other magisters, who were somewhat more uptight, rigid, and cemented in their ways, decided to remain loyal to their corrupt leaders. Due to a somewhat archaic rule that no magister may leave their post except from death or infirmity, the ensuing battle led to a somewhat untimely accident that...
Well. It dealt with the corruption, at least. Along with everything else. And here we are.
... But then there's you. And there's us. [ he smiles. ] And there's that 'accident', still watching over us. Her name is
( ... )
Video. No worries!strideonstriderSeptember 20 2011, 18:33:20 UTC
[Dave focuses on the screen, trying to play it cool but the faint twitches of a white eyebrow or a clenched fist show how much finding Rose means to him. Everything.]
So this has been happening long before it was brought to ruin? Is that what you're saying here?
...[Trapped beings of power, his jaw hardens a bit and he leans a little towards the screen.] Where is this 'accident' now?
And does she answer calls or just ignore them.
[Because he has a bone, it is full of all the anger in him and all the frustration and he'll pick it.]
Oh, absolutely. It's the root cause of it all, that conflict. [ he cups his face in his palm, smiling wistfully - as though it's somewhat nostalgic, if anything. ] But you make the most of things, don't you? Life gives you ruins... you make yourself King of them? I'm sure there's a better analogy, but still. That's the gist.
As for Minerva, she has a mouthpiece of sorts. There's a woman called Gaea who crops up, from time to time. [ he brushes a thumb across his charcoal skin significantly, his mouth pressing a little thinner, expression clouding over. ] She can't be trusted in any practical sense, but she should be able to answer any questions you have about that
( ... )
Making the most of things is one thing. Did anyone try to fix it then or did it all just spiral down the drain into the great wide community sewers?
[More rebuilding like with Sburb. Just what he needed when you added an unkillable boss At least he hoped it wasn't like that. But cynical white haired Strider, never saw the positive these days. Well, not right away.]
How can I tell when this Gaea is going to crop up? Circles in the dirt? Staticy messages? What kind of freaky deaky should I expect without any warning sirens?
Better to get it out now than to sit on it like the golden egg. There's no prize inside of that. Just more junk to fill the trunk.
[Another transmission interrupts, it opening up into video to see a dark-skinned female, presumably from the same race as Dai. She's standing, or at least initially is, finally coming to settle down in a chair to take a proper look at what is going on here and respond appropriately. She gives a half smile, amused by the suggestions to his own question. As suspected, she too, has the long ears and white hair, although she's lacking Dai's... spectacle of... disciples lingering in his presence.]
-Actually, for any one of you, I am quite reachable simply by being asked for.
[She can't blame him and does wonder why Dai insists on showing such things off.]
Ah well, quite a bit has happened here since the first foreigner arrived. So, do forgive me for answering your question with a question so early on in our conversation: are you asking what has just recently happened or what has happened to cause all of this in the first place?
Video [Sorry for the lateness]strideonstriderOctober 16 2011, 01:16:15 UTC
What happened to cause it all. [Dave sits down on the edge of some wall and his attention is on her, as sharp as if she could really see his eyes focused on her.]
That tends to be where we start when we're trying to see the situation as a whole, isn't it? One account of the timeline does not fact make.
