Usually, when Faye wakes up, it's a gradual process.

This is because she never actually wants to wake up. Waking up entails alarm clocks and the cold outside the covers and work, and she's really not cut out for all those things. She's supposed to be on some distant hunk of rock somewhere, living like a queen, not in some shit hole city with a big ass clock and jobs. That's why she tries to draw waking up out as long as she possibly can, rolling around, burrowing into pillows, pulling blankets over her face and stretching. It's all a very complicated process.

A process she unfailingly attempts to put into practice presently, although she's having trouble. Half-asleep, she's aware of being warm, warm and restricted, which is new. Even when she's got someone else in bed with her, she usually takes up so much space it's possible for her to go through this with little problem. So when she realizes she can't, that there's something holding her back, she breaks routine and opens her eyes first thing.

And promptly has a heart attack.

What follows is a lot of jumping back and something strangled that comes out sounding like, "Ahhhchrist!"

log, frederick
