If Alfons were born into an AU where he lived now, I think he'd dress like most engineers - jeans and a geeky t-shirt, maybe with a flannel jacket. He'd definitely feel most at home in hacker/gearhead culture. His parents would have raised him to clean up when necessary so he'll wear nice slacks/suits to weddings and such, but on his own he won't mind being a normal engineer.

If Alfons were in a culture shock situation, he would be confused and terrified by how brazen modern dress is. Going to a mall with girls running around in hot pants would make him horribly embarrassed and upset, because on one hand, how can you avoid looking, people are running about half-naked, and on the other hand, he feels fundamentally WRONG for not wanting to look at all the T&A on display. He would wind up wearing nice dark slacks and button down shirts, very prissy. If he had the money, probably J. Crew stuff, otherwise H&M. And he'd walk by the front of Abercrombie and Fitch to stare at the giant softcore porn shots of shirtless guys they call advertising, trying to pretend this is yet more mundane modern indecency to be horrified at, yet he keeps wandering back ten hundred times.

Yeah, poor Alfons being time warped would be such a double edged sword - on one hand he'd get to see so much interesting technology, airplanes that go faster than sound, the moon landing, Hubble Telescope, etc. On the other, he'd be so confused by how girls walk around hardly wearing anything.
